I'm married to Nan Kennard and she kicks my butt at running.  She has beat me handily in every race we have done together except for a downhill mile we did once.  She is my running inspiration.  I'd like to run a marathon with her someday and actually keep up.

Barefoot and Minimalist footwear running study just published by Harvard

A study was just barely published in “NATURE, a scientific journal”.  There’s a corresponding website detailing the study that is well done in my opinion.  It is based on the findings of their research and pretty clearly states what things there are not enough evidence or research for.

Check it out!…

Time just published a one page article on barefoot running. They referenced a study done by the American Journal of Physical Therapy or something like that. Once again, they have shown that running barefoot or in minimalist shoes reduces the amount of pressure and impact placed on the legs, hips, and back. I haven't had a chance to look up the actual research, but the point is that more and more research is being done to prove that a mid-foot/forefoot strike and/or barefootish running is better than running in fancy shoes with a heel strike. While barefooting and VFFs are certainly a fad for most people, it is driving the theories of running in the right direction.

not just a scientific journal but the world's premier (top) scientific journal for publication of seminal (breakthrough) discoveries. Pretty impressive.

I have a personal email I got from Dan Lieberman last spring where I discussed running in five fingers with him if you are interested in reading it. It was his advice that convinced me to start doing it in earnest. Nice guy too.

jun - I think you're right about the direction. I look forward to seeing the way footwear options in general improve in the coming years.

rooster - yeah, that would be cool to see his email...thanks. my email is aaronkennard@gmail.com

Aaron, go to the discussions board and see the thread I started yesterday on barefoot running about Liebermans article. You might want to write a comment there, Sean Sundwall is interested in how people experience the FFs.

I will forward you Lieberman's email. I will also send you the original Nature article if you want (I have a subscription to Nature so have the article). Scott

that would be great if you can send me the original article also! I don't have a subscription.

I just sent you the email and the article from my yahoo account (renegade_rooster at yahoo dot com) to your gmail account. check your junk mail in case it got routed there or something!
