Personal:

My name is Vinh Nguyen. I'm 28 years old, former Marine...

Started running when I joined the military in 1999. I did not enjoy running until 2006-7 when I started training for my first marathon. In the Marines, we ran an average of 3-5 miles. I never ran any distances longer than that until I started training for the Myrtle Beach Marathon in 2007.

Currently working as a government contractor (electronics technician).

I finished my Associates of Science in August and have finally been able to train hard full time. I decided to take time of school to see how much of a difference it will make and maybe hopefully achieve my goal and qualify for Boston.

I wore my Brooks Mach 10 for the 400 m repeats. My calves are killing me. Oh and the 400 m sprints were uphill slightly. Good workout but I'll probably be paying for it tomorrow! I'm also wondering if these 400m times are any good? I never ran track or anything and I know I shouldn't compare it to a single all out 400m run, but I'm just curious...

Man, you get up early. :)

I'm at work by 6am so 4am is when I have to get up if I wanna squeeze in a run early. I'm used to it though...serving 8 years in the Marine Corps. At least now I enjoy running =)

Ah, the joy of 400s. And 10 in a row with a slight up hill. You should be hurting some today. I'm not much of a track speedster but those are fast splits.

Wow nice workout. That is some great 400s. I am no track start and just learning the ropes doing it too. Looks like you just started out a bit fast and slowed down after midway like I do more times then not. And finished really strong. But really dude your running them right around a 6:00min mile that is smoken. Your going to smash that sub 21 5k in Dec. Very nice job dude.

Thanks guys! I'm definitely feeling it today in my calves...hopefully a 5 mile recovery run will help.

Nice work on those 400 repeats. Looks like a successful running day.

Are you following a particular training plan?

From nguyenvn on Wed, Nov 18, 2009 at 12:55:08 from 75.77.22.187

Thanks Cal! On Tuesdays/Thursday evenings, I run with a running group who is training for a marathon next month. The other days, I'm on my own schedule building up to my marathon in Feb. Should I change anything?
