I took the snowshoes out again. I ran the Bonneville shoreline trail to the radio towers. Unfortunately the trail was 50% snow and 50 % dirt. I ended up taking the snowshoes off and carrying them for part of the run. When I got above the second set of radio towrs there was enough snow again. I wore the snowshoes up the the third set of radio towers and back down to the second set (1.5 miles).  After that, I took off the snowshoes and carried them for the rest of the run. My arms got a good workout.

How do these snow shoes work? Do they go over your regular shoes?

Yes. I wear a regular pair of trail running shoes and strap the snowshoes to them. The snowshoes are easy to take on and off.

Twikies, don't make me call you a 'shoer! :) But really, hopefully we get a coupla good snow storms so you can get some more time on the new snowshoes in deep snow and I can go skiing and screw up me knee again.

Oh ya, and those shoes would have come in handy in Moab this past weekend too.

What brand did you end up going with? I've been doing research on a good pair to pick up, but there are a million different kinds and the price range is all over the place. I'm curious to know what people like.

The ones I got are Yukon Charlie 85's. They were for $70 at Big Five Sporting Goods. There are several types of snowshoes that are a lot more expensive, but I didn't want to spend that kind of money on my first pair. Perhaps after I have put 500 or so miles on these one I will buy a nicer pair.
