Ran a couple miles to the track, only to discover that there was a meet getting in the way of my planned 4 x 1600 workout (darn kids!).  I cursed briefly, and then did my 4 fast miles with a 1/4 mile recovery on the streets.

My splits were 7:28, 7:27, 7:38, 7:38.  I felt okay with that.  It was windy through portions of the run, but somehow wind doesn't feel so bad when it's warm.  It was mid 60s.  It felt pretty good, but it was a little on the hot side.  I was thirsty when I was finished.

I'm starting Ken Follett's Fall of Giants, which I checked out from the library (digitally).  But I'll be racing the clock.  I have 13 days to read it, and it's pretty long.  I'm pretty sure I can do it in 7 days or less.  We'll see.  I'll let you know too if I liked it.  The only books of his that I read were Pillars of the Earth and World Without End.  Those were both pretty good, but I suspect very different from this one.

Those sound like good books. I'm reading a James Patterson book. It is good when you need a less wordy mystery. I had to read something less deep after reading The Art of Racing in The Rain. That one made me cry.

Just read a brief synopsis of that one. That just might be my next read, depending on how much it costs as a nook book :)

For some reason, during the school year I do a lot of heavy, literary reading. I save my summers for books like Patterson's, or any other book that is a short, quick, thriller-type read. Have you read any John Sanford? I went through most of his books a couple summers ago (or at least the ones I could get from the library). You'd probably like him if you like Patterson.

Great splits on your workout today.

I've never read Follet. I'm considering checking out "A Dangerous Fortune" to start.

Who do those kids think they are, running on their track when you need it? Good splits -- mid-60s feels hot to me too, especially if the sun is out.

JD, I never read that one, but I would highly recommend Pillars of the Earth. It's one of the best books I've read in the last five years. Its sequel wasn't as good, but it was still pretty good.

And Joe, I know. Seriously, they should know that Tuesday (or sometimes Wednesday), I should get the entire track to myself. The nerve.

What are some of his titles. Nothing came up when I did a search for that author at my library.

Good splits! Your 1/2 is in a couple weeks right?

I have to wait til at least 6:00pm if I want the track. Then I have to put up with the the softball girls gawking at me.

From Tracy on Wed, Apr 13, 2011 at 10:31:41 from 209.175.177.37

Whoops, April. That's cause I spelled his name wrong. It's Sandford. He has a lot of books with "prey" in the title. They're all based on the same detective character, but you don't necessarily have to read them in order.

Stacy, my 1/2 is on April 30. And I hate gawking of any kind while I'm running, especially from high school athletes. They must be jealous.

Yeah! New ideas for books to read.

Your paces on those 4 miles were pretty speedy.

In the past I've found that the HS track is pretty deserted before sunrise.

Perfect! I've also been wanting a good book or two to read. Great splits on your repeats! Silly kids hogging the track...
