I squeezed this in before Euchre night (we play every other Wednesday).  I did not win (again).

Euchre?? I have never heard of this. What kind of game is it?

From Tracy on Thu, Jan 06, 2011 at 14:47:25 from 209.175.177.37

It's a great card game. Kinda like bridge, but way easier and way shorter. You work with your partner to take tricks (using all suits 9-A) but the trump changes depending on the deal (basically, each person gets a chance to call a trump suit based on what the dealer flips up OR if no one calls that suit trump, each person gets a turn to call what they think they can make). The difficulty is that the highest card is the jack of the trump suit, and the second highest card is the jack of the same color.

It's a fun game, if you like cards and gambling, which I do. We don't play for high stakes.

Yea!! All midwesterners know Euchre! We play it whenever we are with our family! We haven't yet "brought it to the West" with us!

That's funny. I was going to say I think it's a midwesterner thing, but I didn't want to sound like a snot :)

ha ha ha, I was just so excited to see someone else on the blog taking about Eucher I did not even think about it!

And then, I realized that Stacy, being in ND is technically a midwesterner too ... ? so maybe it is just "some midwestern families" ;-).

Lol I must be out of the "midwestern card loop". :) My husbands parents used to play whist, and kanasta, but I don't think I have ever heard anyone talk of Eucher. I am going to ask around. It sounds fun. We play cards every now and then, but not as much as I would like. It's a nice get together with friends and family.

It is pronounced "you-ker" (for when you start asking around ;-)).
