I run with God. I use my running time to contemplate, to pray and to listen for His call. I'm married to a non-runner, but a supportive one, and we have four children.

I got a nice gift from my XC runners.  Part of it (just part, isn't that crazy?  there was a lot more) was a $100 gift card to my favorite shoe/running store.  So I went yesterday to get new shoes.  I also bought a pair of running tights, but this was a total impulse buy and I'm going to return them.  I'm a dork.

Anyway, as soon as I walked in, one of the salesmen that I always talk to when I go in (his name is Van, and it always takes me a minute to remember that.  I usually tell myself, "I know it's something unusual," and I rack my brain and can't come up with it.  And then I remember it when we are done talking) asked me, "Did you get your run in today?"  I laughed and told him that I was running inside when I got home, and he said that was everyone's response.  The wind was ridiculous.  Gusts up to 50 mph.  Driving on the interstate was touchy and slow.

So when I got home I "ran" on my gazelle again.  I don't always feel like I get a good workout, but my heel has been bothering me anyway (probably because I needed new shoes), so I guess it has been good for the low impact.  I will not be running outside till Saturday, probably, but not because of the weather.  My husband has supervision stuff tonight and tomorrow.  So my mileage this week will be okay, but some of the miles will be not real running miles.

And I have to admit that while I was running, I was flipping through the channels and I totally got sucked into--brace yourself--a Liza Minnelli performance.  Maybe it was her raspy voice.  Or her boyishly handsome tuxedoed backup dancers.  Or perhaps it was her red-sequined off-the-shoulder jumpsuit.  I don't know.  But I watched the last 20 minutes of the show and I could not change the channel for some reason.  And I was caught when my husband came upstairs.

After that was over I started watching NCIS (much more socially acceptable).

Then I needed to help with bath time, and I just ran out of motivation to get back to it after putting the kids to bed.

50mph geez that would blow you right off the road. Enjoy your new shoes!

You must be an awesome coach!

When the storm blew through here earlier in the week they clocked some 70-75mph wind a little east of Tucson - here it was about 45 mph and it kept me up all night -- it is crazy to listen to that all night. I am just glad I wasnt trying to drive in it, it scares me to get blown when I am driving!!

Hope your new shoes help your heel!!

Holy moly! And I thought we lived in a wind tunnel! I live right on the edge of town next to a cornfield, so we have nothing to block the wind. I've had those nights--lots of howling and then hard blasts against the house. But 70-75 mph! Could you imagine running in that? You'd probably be almost standing still!

I've never been to Arizona, but I remember those East Central Illinois winds. They are brutal.

It's probably good for you to take a break and use the gazelle for a couple of days since you're heel is bothering you.

That was a great gift from your XC team. What was the rest of the gift?

That was a funny store about getting caught enjoying a guilty pleasure.

Your XC team is so nice! Don't return the tights!-Sounds like you need them! LOL I only have 20 mph gusts over here but the windchill is 17 below...

I didn't try on the tights, and when I put them on at home, they weren't as warm as I was hoping...

They gave me a really awesome clipboard engraved with my name, which I will not be taking to meets. It is really nice--I'll probably use it for meetings and such. Then they gave me a t-shirt from the state meet, another gift card to a bar/restaurant in town and--for some odd reason-- $20. The seniors gave me a crap load of candy. I guess I didn't hide my sweet tooth too well.

It was nice. My teams have historically been incredibly generous. One year they gave me $237, all in cash. It was pretty funny when I opened the card.

Wow that really is pretty generous!
