I dropped off my kids at my SIL's house.  She has been working 12 hour days for quite a while, so I felt bad (especially since I had asked my BIL if he would be there, and he wasn't there when I dropped them off, although he was when I got back).  So I told her 40 minutes.

I ran my usual route, except the mile markers were off by about a 1/2 mile.  So I stopped paying attention to speed and just ran.  While running, I was all paranoid, since I have been reading about serial killers for the past two days.  So everyone I passed on the street was a potential monster.  I started projecting my "don't mess with me" by bellowing hello to everyone so they could see I wasn't winded.  I know I frightened people with my massive guns.

And then when I ran past my house I realized I had left my garage door open in my haste to get to the preschool meeting for Caleb, which actually turned out to be an open house, so my hurry was needless.  So again I was paranoid and walked in the house and shouted really loud to make sure no one was there.  My husband has been out of town at a conference for a few days, so I made sure to check the house well when I came home with the kids.

Then I continued on.  I pushed the pace for the last 10 minutes because I wanted to make sure that I ran as much as I could in the 40 minutes that I allotted myself.  At 4 miles I was at just under 9 min pace, so I pushed my hardest for another 4 minutes.  So of course I am estimating the 1/2 mile, since I still don't have a garmin, and I don't plan on gettting one right now, given the circumstances of my life (even though I drool over ads and amazon).

It was a good run.

Great run and you make me laugh with the monster talk. I do the same thing. I may run tonight so I may have to be extra loud with my hellos...

You should stop reading about serial killers. It's making you paranoid. But it does make for an amusing post.

Great job on the run.

Oh dear that is funny. I am glad I am not the only one who occasionally gets the heebie--jeebies on a lonely run. Sometimes when I am desperate to run and have no babysitter I take the kids to this local park nearby. They sit in the volleyball pit and get incredibly dirty and dig holes and play, and I push my toddler in a stroller and run loops(I can see the kids the whole time). It's a great workout and a double aerobic boost because I have to yell from time to time to make the kids behave! Other times I have run a one mile loop by my house and run through the house, living room, and kitchen between each loop to make sure the kids are okay. Of course I live out in the country where everybody knows everybody and I would know right away if a strange vehicle went down the road.

I always wondered how the moms on here jugggle running and kids. I don't have this problem!

I've thought about running and checking on the kids every mile when I'm in a bind, but my kids are a bit too young yet. But I like your strategies April! It must get boring running around a circle for an hour plus!

I'm still looking forward to the day when both of them can ride bikes (or maybe someday run) when I'm out there.

Our teenagers are never home so I usually have a 9,7, and 2 year old to manage. At 9 and 7 the boys do pretty well while I run--it's Vanessa(2) I either have to take with me or figure something out because she's too fast for a 9-year-old that may get distracted:) Of course with David currently laid off I can run whenever I want and not worry about it. Maybe that's the silver lining in the clowd.

Those little suckers are fast, aren't they? My 2 year old can run pretty fast. You take your eyes off him for a second and he's gone...Sometimes I don't even trust my 17 and 18 year old nieces to watch him!

Any job prospects for your hubby yet?

From seeaprilrun on Thu, Aug 13, 2009 at 21:51:58 from 205.172.12.229

There have been some part-time offers but that would not be enough money to offset the cost of daycare since the hours conflict with my work schedule--which brings us back to square 1. We had a good setup, I worked Monday-Thursday and David worked Friday-Sunday so no daycare. Now that setup is gone. We will probably just hang tight until I finish school in December and get a new job with different hours. Then David will know what kind of shift to go for, 1st or 2nd. Better yet, if he could get a full-time offer with enough money to keep us afloat and then I will just go part-time and stay home with the kids. I can always wish.....

The market is so horrible right now. No one wants to hire full time b/c they don't want to give benefits. Glad he is still trying.

I think it's awesome when people can work out schedules so that they don't need daycare, but I bet sometimes you guys don't get to spend as much time together. My husband and I both work in schools, so at least we have 6 weeks off together. He went back to work Aug. 1, so I feel like I haven't seen him pretty much since.

Hopefully the job market picks up by December!
