I ran a 5K today.  I got my rear in gear.  Second gear, maybe. 

It was windy, rainy and cold.  It was 46 degrees and I was not suitably dressed because I didn't pack more than a t-shirt and shorts.  I did not warm up more than 2 minutes.  My performance was lackluster.  But the weird thing is that I only got passed by 2 people.  One of them was an old friend's husband (she's not old; I've just known her a long time) in the last 1/2 mile of the race.  I went with him for 2 minutes, then looked down at my watch and saw that I was expending way more energy than I felt like expending (we were at a 7:00 pace) and decided that he wanted it way more than I did.  I finished maybe 15 seconds behind him. 

But somehow I still managed to win my age division.  That's questionable, but I guess I'll take it.

True Joe, but your win was not questionable. You did cross the line before anyone else. I haven't looked at the results, but I bet the women who came in 1-3 were in my age division.

If I analyze the amount of times that his comments miss the mark, he probably does shoot from the hip when he comments. But Burt, to your credit, I do laugh even at the infrequent dumb ones.

I guess I might find out if Burt has a rapist's wit if I do go to AZ in June.

The sad thing is, Carolyn, that I could not have gone faster and I can't just blame the wind for that. That's about as good as it gets for now. Hopefully I have a renewed sense of running for this week.

I don't believe I'm familiar with that movie, which surprises me. However, I did just finish reading Erik Erikson's Identity: Youth and Crisis, which had a picture of Michaelangelo's naked David on the cover. I had a fun time trying to explain that to my daughters.

1. Malapropism is a literary term. Of course the nerdy English teacher uses it. It is when you confuse words to a hilarious and ridiculous result.
