Injury update:  Progress seems a kinda slow slow slow to me but I suppose I'm not a very patient guy. Back/hip does feel a little better each day but not by a whole lot. I'm not sure if I'll be ready to try any running on Monday like I had hoped. Need to be able to walk around more pain free than at present. Been taking a dose of Prednizone this week to attack the inflammation and try to kick start the healing but not sure if it's doing anything. I seem to get as much bang out of regular old Ibuprofen as much as anything.

Don't know if I've really described the injury in earlier posts so maybe I'll do that so if it sounds familiar to anyone they can share their wisdom with me.

There are really 2 pains. First, there is the dull, lower back pain and tightness on the left side. This I've had before from time to time and it's never bothered my running much. This dull pain kind of extends down into the left hip.

The other pain and the one that is causing me the most grief as far as running, walking, or any form of XT is in the left hip right around where the hip socket is (I don't know all the fancy medical terms for these body parts). This pain is a stabbing, concentrated  pain, kind of like getting poked with a needle in that spot.  Just feels very fragile and makes me nervous to do much of anything that puts any pressure on it.

Guess we'll see how the weekend goes and pray for the best but be prepared for whatever. I'm actually feeling pretty good mentally. Physically I'm beginning to feel like a slug. Thanks to Kim for all her support and willingness to give me rub downs and massages in my "upper thigh" area :).

Sorry to hear about your injury. I have been out of the loop on the blog this week so just now checking in. I hope that it improves over the weekend and you can run on Monday. I'm sure it must be frustrating. You are in great shape though and will come back quickly.

Thanks Jim. Guess this all just comes with the territory especially as we get older.

So sorry to read about your injury, again. I'll start calling you Job.

Hayhoo! I'm finally going to have a week that I run more miles than you!!

BTW that stabbing type pain doesn't sound too good. Maybe you should just come over and watch a movie, I'll feed you icecream candybars and popcorn.

Tom, can you do any pool running or swimming? Maybe the pool would help? How did this happen? Sounds like a nerve thing going on.

hope run back on the roads soon, not too much icing from the inside out with ice cream.

Terry I'm tempted to take you up on that one.

Brent thanks for reminding me of the pool running option. I think that's about the only thing that would be doable for me at the moment. Just wish there was a pool easier to get to. SF doesn't have an indoor one. Lately I've had trouble getting any motivation to do any cross-training even though I would imagine it would do me alot of good and maybe help prevent fluke injuries like this one. I'm thinking although my running muscles are strong alot of my supporting muscles are really wimpy. I do some core work but I think I need to add some back work to the mix.

I would stick to the messages, you can't go wrong there! Who needs running when your getting a message everyday!!!:);)

Stay Patient Tom you will be back sooner than your think.

WOW!!!! I am so sorry to hear that you are this hurt. CRUD, and from who knows what, too. Have you been to the doctor at all? Have you experienced this kind of pain in those locations before? Man, I can not figure out what you did.

STAY SANE, I know how it really gets to us runners to not be able to run. I, however, have no problem sleeping in when I am injured. You should give it a try!

TAKE CARE, praying for something to give soon and major feeling better improvements to come your way! DANG.
