I brought the family along to track night tonight.  I am hoping the kids will want to try it next week.  And my wife was nice enough to tag along.  The kids were really good actually and I my 8 yr old will try the 800 next week.  I ran the 1500m and the 3K races tonight.  This is the first time since last year that I did those distances.  This week I wanted to go out a little harder and not hang behind anyone like the past two times this year.

The 1500 I went out a little harder and didn't wait on anyone.  I think it paid off.  4:45, which is a 23 sec PR over last year.  That's pretty cool.  I just don't have another gear like some of those guys do.  I need to work on that for the end of these races. That time is right on for my McMillan pace calculator prediction from my 5K race time in Feb.

The 3000, I didn't expect anything after hitting the 1500 pretty good.  I tried to just go out comfortably, and tried to pick it up on the last 2 laps.  It was a big field, so there was a lot of running around people as we lapped them, but that didn't hurt too much.  Anyway, I felt good about this one for not taking it out hard.    10:37 -- which is a 24 sec PR.  This is 27 sec off of my McMillan predicted time.  But after racing the shorter races, it is hard to follow up with a PR in the longer.

It was a nice night and cool to have the family there tonight.  Now I just need to take care of my legs and get ready for Sunday

Dude, you rock! Have Chrys video tape you next week. I bet you look like you were flying. I have no idea what speeds those are, but 1500 is only about 100M short of a mile, and you ran 4:45. You're easily in sub 5:00 mile territory. Sweet! Can't wait to hear about next week's outing.

thanks man - I probably will be hobbling around next tuesday but I'm hoping the kids will want to go do a 200 or 800.

Good luck this weekend - have fun!

This is great stuff Tim and how cool is it that you kid is going to race next week! I want some details though. When you're cruising at close to the speed of sound and you still have a lap to go, how are you feeling? Are you just trying to catch the guy infront of you, or are you just hanging on? Give us some more details about the race...please.

Rhett - usually people are yelling at you to "go" on the 2nd to last lap, so I try to pick it up a little on that lap. Then the last lap you pound it as best you can, basically redlining it. My problem is that I don't have another gear like some of the people out there. I can pound it around the last corner and the straight, but there is a point where I start binding up. My little legs only go so fast. I would like see my splits on one of these races. I think maybe I'll have my wife time me the last week I do it. It would be informative.

Now that I think about it, going all out and hitting that red line is really cool actually. It is such a different feeling compared to a long race, like a marathon.
