Running Accomplishments:

I started running in 2008 while I was a stay-at-home-mom.  I discovered this blog in July 2010 and followed the advice from the blog to gradually improve my distance/speed.  I achieved various PR's in 2010/2011.   I went back to work part-time in 2012-2015 and switched to mostly running trail runs.   When I got prego with my third child in 2016, I stopped running and started work full-time.   After a 7 year hiatus, I returned to running in 2022.  I have alot of work to do to get back in shape, but looking forward to the challenge!

Time: 7:30am.  Weather=83-85F, 60% humidity, sunny.

This race was tough for me.  Not sure why.  It felt really hot.  We started much later in the day then I've been running all summer so the sun was a beat down.  Maybe I was also dehydrated.  Couldn't muster a sub-8 to save my life.   Average pace =8:19/m, but that's probably sckewed because I walked through every water stop.  Everytime I looked at my watch it was 8:06 pace... it was like the magic number of the day.

It's highly disappointing.  I plugged this time into race predictor and it said I can expect to do a 4:00 marathon at a 9:09/m pace.  Wow!   Is that really the time I should be shooting for at NYC now?

I don't know how to react to this.  It's been really hard marathon training and being a working mom.  Last week's business trip really messed me up.  I'm feeling down.  Perhaps I should just suspend all running ambition for now and just run to "finish" the marathon.  I feel stretched thin right now.

Considering the temp, I think you did great! I know how you feel running in Texas, it's not the most enjoyable. I think you have more in you than a 4 hour marathon. Keep up the training and you will do a good job. Hopefully the weather will be kind to you there.

Great job on your race.

Not every race will be a PR. If you feel good about your training, then continue on. Get the down days behind you and continue to move ahead. The fact that you wanted to do better is a good sign.

Some food for thought - Jeff Galloway would suggest that when the temperature rises above 65F then you can expect your average pace to increase approximately 30 sec for every 5 - 10 F. So all things considered having an average running pace of 8:06 would correspond to a 30 - 60 second decrease with more favorable conditions. Which will put you right where you want to be on your goal race day.

The higher temps and humidity will help you prepare. If you are happy with your effort and preparation going into the event, then make a note of things you might do differently next time and move on (i.e. learn from it).

Weekly mileage and the addition of speed work and tempo runs will keep you on track.

New York is still a ways away and if you are doing your training as planned you should be fine. Additionally, going into NY you will most likely be tapering and this should help both your energy and performance. From what your PR's indicate you should be just fine.

Stay the course.

Don't give up on yourself yet! Some days just don't feel good...you've had workouts longer than this recently with a much faster pace.

We missed you this morning, hope your run went well. We looked for you out on the trail! Hang in there, it will get better. It is very hard to get it all in and I was telling Wendy the same thing this morning. I think MCM might be my last marathon for a while and I am going to focus on shorter races and speed work.

You are doing well and still have 8 weeks and put together a decent training cycle.
