Running Accomplishments:

I started running in 2008 while I was a stay-at-home-mom.  I discovered this blog in July 2010 and followed the advice from the blog to gradually improve my distance/speed.  I achieved various PR's in 2010/2011.   I went back to work part-time in 2012-2015 and switched to mostly running trail runs.   When I got prego with my third child in 2016, I stopped running and started work full-time.   After a 7 year hiatus, I returned to running in 2022.  I have alot of work to do to get back in shape, but looking forward to the challenge!

All the coaches at my running store have been telling me to slow down on the long runs. They said I'm not going to get faster running my long runs too fast. So I tried to slow it down today. Actually, it wasn't that hard to slow it down because the weather was pretty yucky today.

I ran with a girl named Wendy today. We talked non-stop pretty much until mile 9. At that point I told her I had to put in my ipod and focus. I was going to try to have negative splits.

Miles 14 and 15 were directly against the wind. It was rather tough moving. I was kicking my calfs as I was running. The wind was making it tough to have good form. I decided to stop trying to go faster and just try to not injure myself with the horrible form. At one point a gust of wind almost blew me off the sidewalk.

So I didn't really overdue it today. Now I feel great! I don't even feel like I ran at all today.

There are a bunch of us (about 7-8 people) aiming for 3:20-3:30 marathons in Dec/Jan. We decided that we wanted to start a tempo group on Tuesdays. It should be alot of fun!

Texas-OU game is on now. Hook 'em Horns!!!!

-----------------

Afternoon update:

I had to log back on and say that my legs now feel like I ran 15 miles... which is to say they are rather beat up! Also, this Longhorn game is hard to watch... OU is kicking our butts! ugh!

Missed you guys today! The UT game was a disaster! The wind is brutal but it will be here to stay for the next 6 months.

Let me know the plan for Tuesday - I will be there!

From TexasLindsey on Sat, Oct 08, 2011 at 20:36:49 from 70.253.139.28

Missed you today too! Although the weather was pretty awful so if you had to miss, you picked a good day for it!

The plan for Tuesday... Well, I was kinda recruiting today for that. Here are the people that may interested in running 7:00-7:20 pace tempo runs:

Lindsey

Jody

Melissa

Ashley

Wendy

Clint

Brian (hadn't talked to him yet but Clint said he'd probably do it)

Elise (hadn't talked to her yet)

Ramon (hadn't talked to him yet)

Miquel (hadn't talked to him yet)

Emily (hadn't talked to her yet)

The concensus of the people I talked to wanted to meet Tuesday at 6:00pm at the store. There won't be enough light outside in the morning (5:30am) at the river so no one wanted to do that. So I relunctantly agreed to the evening thing... although my idea was that if we found a lighted morning location, we could switch it up in the future.

We thought it might be a good idea to meet at the store, run 3 miles straight out in one direction in a slow warm-up. Then we turn around and just tempo it back to the store. Most of us are going to be in the 7:00-7:20ish range for tempos.

Melissa's brother's might come too, but they might be 6:20/m for tempo.

The people I haven't talked to are people who either weren't there today or else I didn't get a chance to talk to them but they are people who I know run around my pace in races.

I know you're really busy in the evenings... can you make it at 6pm?

From TexasLindsey on Sat, Oct 08, 2011 at 20:39:09 from 70.253.139.28

Oh, and we thought each week we'd add a little more to the tempo. We're starting at 3 miles because that's what coach Jim's schedule showed for this coming week.

Put me on the list for 3:25 :-)

It's great to have a group like that to inspire and incourage you!

That game had me depressed all day.

Another good weekend run. I tend to push harder on long runs too, but if you are not doing a ton of workouts during the week, I think it's ok. In fact, it's great marathon training...how can it not be, you know?
