Running Accomplishments:

I started running in 2008 while I was a stay-at-home-mom.  I discovered this blog in July 2010 and followed the advice from the blog to gradually improve my distance/speed.  I achieved various PR's in 2010/2011.   I went back to work part-time in 2012-2015 and switched to mostly running trail runs.   When I got prego with my third child in 2016, I stopped running and started work full-time.   After a 7 year hiatus, I returned to running in 2022.  I have alot of work to do to get back in shape, but looking forward to the challenge!

5.2 miles at 5 am.  Weather=83 degrees, 58% humidity, 67 dew point, 12 mph wind, dark.

Ran 3/4 mile at slow pace to the corner to meet Tim.  Then we proceeded to do a 3.7 mile "tempo" run.  I just wasn't feeling it though.  I was dreading running fast.  Our neighborhood has hills so it was a hilly concrete sidewalk tempo.  On mapmyrun.com it says the lowest point on this loop was 750 feet and the highest was 900 feet.  In March I was doing tempos at 7:20/m but that was in better weather on flat ground.  I thought I could do at least 7:30 right now and that's what Tim and I said was our goal.  We thought we'd start the pace in the 7:50's and get faster and faster and average 7:30 for the entire run.  Tim's average was 7:30/m so he did meet the goal.  I just bonked and couldn't get faster.  I think I'd do better with a better warm-up and with fresher legs.  I am really tired and worn out.  Legs just ache.

mile 1- 7:59

mile 2- 7:45

mile 3- 7:53

final .7- 8:12 - Bonked!

Ran 3/4 mile home at slow pace.

The plan is to do 6 miles easy tomorrow, take Friday off, race 10k on Saturday plus run additional 6 miles easy, race a 5k on Sunday.

Wow, nice and cool down there this morning!

Seriously, these last few weeks must have been really tough for you guys.

Yeah, this weather is pretty awful. We're at 102 degrees right now at 3:15 pm. It's supposed to get to 106 by 5pm. Same exact forcast for the next 10 days.

On Friday we will pass Dallas-Fort Worth record for the most 100+ degree days in a row. We had 42 days in 1980. We're going to smash that! Before this year the second place was 1998 with a mere 29 days in a row.

The worst part is the drought. The trees in my neighborhood are dying. The grass has been dead all summer but now with the trees, it looks like fall out there. I have started watering my neighbors trees while they are at work because if they let their trees die, I'm worried it will lower my property value too.

We are prisoners in the house most of the day. At least it's a cool 85 most mornings at 5am so I can run.

Most people I know are really miserable about the weather... The only people who are still happy when I see them are my running friends. There are actually even several people in my running group that run in the heat of the day! They do track workouts when it's 100 degrees outside!

Last week my wife and I stayed up in the mountains for a night at the Alta Lodge. We went for a hike that night and actually had a snowball fight in August. We had our 3rd snowiest winter ever and there is still quite a bit on the ground at some resorts. Crazy.

I'd be indoors on the treadmill if I were you. Your power bills must be insane the past couple months.

It's raining! We did not get the record... 2011 = 40 days of 100+ heat and 1980 = 41 days of 100+ heat.

I don't care! This rain is awesome!! Surreal!! It's kinda dreary and raining off and on all day! I have never been so excited to experience such gloomy weather!

By the way, power bills are under control because we live with the thermostat at 82 degrees. Not fun. The only way I'm getting through it is because I'm convincing myself that it is helping to acclimate me to higher heat which will improve my running. (Don't tell me if you know that's not true!)
