Running Accomplishments:

I started running in 2008 while I was a stay-at-home-mom.  I discovered this blog in July 2010 and followed the advice from the blog to gradually improve my distance/speed.  I achieved various PR's in 2010/2011.   I went back to work part-time in 2012-2015 and switched to mostly running trail runs.   When I got prego with my third child in 2016, I stopped running and started work full-time.   After a 7 year hiatus, I returned to running in 2022.  I have alot of work to do to get back in shape, but looking forward to the challenge!

4 miles at 5:30pm.  Average pace = 7:32/m.  Weather=81 degrees, wind 24 mph, sunny.

The Cowtown Half Marathon is on Sunday morning.  I thought today would be a good day to do a tempo 4 miler.

Mile 1- 7:37

Mile 2- 7:29

Mile 3- 7:32

Mile 4- 7:33

All things considered I'm pretty happy that I sustained a 7:30ish average through this run. The route had 4 hills: 2 steep and short, 2 long and gradual.  Plus, it was eighty degrees outside, sunny and the wind was pretty strong.  The last mile was the most difficult as it was against the wind and mostly uphill.  The second mile was with the wind at my back and downhill.

My goal on Sunday is to break 1:40 for the half.  This would be about 7:30/m pace.  The course is mostly flat and roads.  The forecast has Sunday morning at 60 degrees (high is 80 something)... pretty warm weather we are having lately... I am NOT complaining.  It's like spring is already here.  I'm wearing tanks and shorts to run in.  So anyways, don't know about the wind.  I'm hoping the conditions are right for me to meet my goal.  I'm a little concerned I haven't been running enough miles or long enough long runs.  Oh well.  Too late now.

Hi Texas Lindsey,

My first question is...is that a beer in your hand in your picture? I have always been told water, sports drink or milk was the best thing to drink after a race...wait, maybe the picture was taken before your race:)

I live close to San Marcos and have been running for a little less than a year. My first big race was last week in Austin (Livestrong Half-Marathon). After I signed up for it my daughter told me I should have entered the Cowtown race instead. She lives in Ft Worth and goes to TCU (Go Horn Frogs)! She is on the Blog too. Here name is Callie (calllietri on the Blog). She is the one who got me running and she is training for Triathlons but had a recent set-back with a stress fracture in her ankle. I'll tell her to look you up on the Blog, ya'll might be able to make contact. She is actually working the Cowtown Race.

My next race is next weekend too, but it's a local race, here in San Marcos, called Moe's Better Half(Marathon). My plan is to beat my PR set last week in Austin, then start training for a full Marathon in Oklahoma on May 1st. Let's keep in touch through the Blog.

Sometimes at the big races I go to, there is free beer to all the finishers. I think the reason is that beer replishes carbs and it's an anti-inflammatory... no, wait, honestly, the reason is because it's fun.

I thought The Cowtown was a great race!

Looking forward to your race report!
