Goal Type:

Boston Qualifier

Running Accomplishments:

PRed in Malibu Nov. 2009 with a 4:00:25, I think.  Shy of sub-4 hours and shy of BQ 3:45.

Other marathon times:

May 2009: Orange County (4:21) and LA (4:15)

Feb. 2010: Surf City (4:09)

Took a couple years off from running in 2013-2014. Haven't done any marathons since 2011 though I started doing half marathons again in 2017.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Still want to qualify for Boston (3:55).

Want to qualify for the NYC Marathon by running a 1:42 half marathon.

Upcoming Races

Long Beach Half Marathon Oct. 8

Surf City Marathon Feb. 2018--I'm training to try to BQ.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to keep running marathons into my 70s.

Personal:

Keep close to Nature's heart...and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods.  Wash your spirit clean. --John Muir

I stole this from Tom's blog because I really like it:

Hudson tidbit: "When it's done right, the long-term training process is like an asymptote. The line that the training process moves toward but never reaches is 'perfect training'.....while it's impossible to train perfectly, it is possible to train better and better."

I ran 8 miles this morning at about 9:50/mile pace.  Then I rode my bike about 12 miles this afternoon.  I'm taking tomorrow off.  It'll be a long day with no running.  :(

Felt great running today after not running yesterday.  I so miss it on my days off.  Did 9 miles in about an hour and a half.  Gonna have to start getting up earlier to make time for the extra mile....

Annoying pains in foot and knees threaten to derail my progress.  Grrrrrr.

I played with pace at the end of the 8 miles today.  Did about 8:40/mile the last few miles.  It was good to get my breathing going a little more than usual and also to see that I could sustain that for several miles.

Ran faster than I needed or wanted to again today:  9:10/mile.  Guess hitting 50 miles a week for the first time isn't wearing out my legs too much.  But I don't think I'm ready to run a 3:45 marathon yet which makes me wonder if I ever will be....

Ran slow at first and then a few of the miles near the end at about 8:45/mile pace.  Felt good.
