Half-Marathon - 1:24:30.56 (Handcart Days)

In my freshmen year, I lettered in both track and cross country. I also got the Rookie of the Year Award in cross country, and the Freshmen of the Year Award in track. At regions for XC I was 7th. At state I was 65th. In track at regions I placed 3rd in the mile and 2nd in the 2 mile. At state I was 17th in the mile and 13th in the 2 mile.

Sophomore year I was a cross country captain and I lettered again. I was 3rd at regions and 12th at state. At track regions I was 3rd in the mile and the 2 mile. I also anchored the winning medley relay team.

Junior year I got a stress fracture about a month before the cross country season started, but made a great comeback with a 2nd place finish at regions.  At state I placed 6th, and I broke 19 minutes for the second time in my racing history.  Team captain again. In track I shattered my old PRs and was doing well until I got a stress reaction.  After 3 weeks off I built my strength back up and performed well at state, earning 4th in the 1600 and 5th in the 3200.  After that, I was invited to the Great Southwest Track Meet in Albuquerque, where I took 5th.

My senior year in cross country I was a captain again, this time with Amanda and Natalie.  This season I was injury free so I got to run competitively at invites.  At state I took 3rd.  At Footlocker Western Regionals I outkicked a girl on the track to finish 10th, which qualified me for nationals the next weekend.  I beat both of the girls who had beat me at state in that race.  At nationals I took 22nd and beat 6 of the girls who had beat me at regionals.  Going into the outdoor season the first Invitational I attended was the Davis Super Meet where I qualified for state in the 1600 and the 3200, and I broke the meet record for the 3200 in an 11:01.29, the previous record was an 11:17.  I had a strong finish to my senior season and finally claimed a state title.  I ran the fastest 1600 and 3200 at state for any division, claiming the double crown in those events, and earning the athlete of the year award :)

Now in college, I run for the University of Utah.  I lettered my freshman season of cross country, and made it to regionals in the 5k in track.

Sophomore year I improved in cross country.  In track I raced the 1500, 5k, 800, 10k, and the mile of the DMR before repeating the 5k at conference and then the 10k at regionals.  Placed 28th behind a lot of seniors... so nationals next year!!

Today we did our workout before our conditioning.  We ran up to Sunnyside Park for warmup, and then did 4 strides.  Then we did a mile.  I got 6:28 (though we don't know how accurate the path we ran was).  Then we did 6 200s.  Half of them were slighty sloped downward, and half were the same but back up.  Then we ran back to the school and did 3 sets each of step ups (I hyperextended my leg coming down on one in the first set, my leg hurt a while afterwards), wall sits, 15 squats, and leg lifts/abs.

Today I ran on the Shoreline Trail.  I went there with my brother, where he had made plans to run with some of the guys that had graduated a few years ago.  I ran with them, though I didn't go as far as they did.  I went out 25 minutes and back.  When I looked it up on google earth I got it as 6 miles.  I felt strong on the run and I think I held a good pace.

Today I did the workout Bill wanted everyone to do yesterday.  I ran to the track for warmup, then did 2 miles of speedchanges, and back home for cooldown.

Today we rode the bus to California.  We stopped in St. George for a run.  I ran with Bill and Jamal, and a few teammates joined in during the run.  We went out 2 miles and back.  Bill said the average pace was 6:52s.

Today we went and picked up our race packets at Mt. SAC.  We ran the course for our run.  I held a sub 8 pace, and I felt relaxed :)

I got to take one of the later buses to the race because mine had a later start.  I started warming up about 50 minutes before my race to give myself plenty of time.  I did about 2 miles, then I changed shoes.  Then I ran another mile with Bill and Jamal.  Then I took a gu and a drink with a little caffeine and headed to the line.  My bib number was 65 so I got to start on the front line on one of the sides, I picked right.  I did strides while they announced some of the other runners.  When the race started I felt that I got out with a good start, strong enough to get me into good position and to not fall behind in the crowd.  Before the race Bill had told me that I shouldn't sit with the girls who were ahead of me at state, so during the first mile I worked my way around them and never saw them the rest of the race.  My split for the first mile was a 5:38.  Then I passed a few people on the switchbacks.  I really had to work the downhill because a few people got me, but I passed them again when it was more flat.  At poopout hill I knew I would have to push because that was where I had given up last year mentally.  I knew it would be hard to continue after it, but I also knew I was close to the finish so I kept pushing and giving it all I had.  I started my kick a little before the track, and then I added to it as I circled the track to finish.  I was so happy to have broke 19 on that hard of a course!  And because I was in the top 24 I made the third west region team.  And I was the first Utah girl, I got all of the girls who were ahead of me at state.  I had a really good day :)          For cooldown I ran around with Bill to different parts of the course to cheer on Jamal.
