Half-Marathon - 1:24:30.56 (Handcart Days)

In my freshmen year, I lettered in both track and cross country. I also got the Rookie of the Year Award in cross country, and the Freshmen of the Year Award in track. At regions for XC I was 7th. At state I was 65th. In track at regions I placed 3rd in the mile and 2nd in the 2 mile. At state I was 17th in the mile and 13th in the 2 mile.

Sophomore year I was a cross country captain and I lettered again. I was 3rd at regions and 12th at state. At track regions I was 3rd in the mile and the 2 mile. I also anchored the winning medley relay team.

Junior year I got a stress fracture about a month before the cross country season started, but made a great comeback with a 2nd place finish at regions.  At state I placed 6th, and I broke 19 minutes for the second time in my racing history.  Team captain again. In track I shattered my old PRs and was doing well until I got a stress reaction.  After 3 weeks off I built my strength back up and performed well at state, earning 4th in the 1600 and 5th in the 3200.  After that, I was invited to the Great Southwest Track Meet in Albuquerque, where I took 5th.

My senior year in cross country I was a captain again, this time with Amanda and Natalie.  This season I was injury free so I got to run competitively at invites.  At state I took 3rd.  At Footlocker Western Regionals I outkicked a girl on the track to finish 10th, which qualified me for nationals the next weekend.  I beat both of the girls who had beat me at state in that race.  At nationals I took 22nd and beat 6 of the girls who had beat me at regionals.  Going into the outdoor season the first Invitational I attended was the Davis Super Meet where I qualified for state in the 1600 and the 3200, and I broke the meet record for the 3200 in an 11:01.29, the previous record was an 11:17.  I had a strong finish to my senior season and finally claimed a state title.  I ran the fastest 1600 and 3200 at state for any division, claiming the double crown in those events, and earning the athlete of the year award :)

Now in college, I run for the University of Utah.  I lettered my freshman season of cross country, and made it to regionals in the 5k in track.

Sophomore year I improved in cross country.  In track I raced the 1500, 5k, 800, 10k, and the mile of the DMR before repeating the 5k at conference and then the 10k at regionals.  Placed 28th behind a lot of seniors... so nationals next year!!

Today we started with 2 laps and then stretching.  Then we did a mile warmup, and a mile speedchanges.  The workout was easy today, a 400, 600, 400, then a lap recovery and 400, 400, 600 and another lap recovery, and then a 200.  Then I did a mile cooldown and iced my shins.

I started with a mile warmup and then a mile of speedchanges.  I guess I started my warmup a bit too early, so to stay warmed up I did 2 more laps of each.  Then I changed to my spikes.  My goal was to try and push myself for a good time and not worry so much about drafting.  This was because I'm supposed to run the mile at BYU on Saturday at a faster pace than I ran today...  I started out fast, I followed Emma for the first two laps.  She pulled ahead though and the rest of the race I just pushed myself.  It was one of my better times this season.  Afterwards I changed shoes back and did a 2 lap cooldown.

My second event was the 800 in the medley relay.  I did about a 2 lap warmup and practiced handoffs really quick before I changed my shoes.  When I got the baton was about the same time West got theirs.  I was ahead of their runner for all of the race, but I could see her shadow and knew she was close behind.  I started my kick at the 300, and then I went even faster at each 100 meters.  She stayed with me the whole time, and in the end it was the want to win for the team that pushed me onward.  It was one of the greatest kicks ever.  The team time was 4:42, and my split for the 800 was 2:38... NEW PR =D  I was so excited.

Afterwards I changed shoes and did another 2 laps cooldown.  Then we put together a 4x4 team.  We won... we were the only girls team.  It was fun.  Then to even out my miles I did another lap.

Today we ran to Sugarhouse Park.  We were doing fartlek, 5 one minute on and equal off.  Neither Bre or I had a watch so we just counted steps.  Then ran back to the track.

Today I started with a mile warmup and then a mile of speedchanges.  Then I went to the bullpen and changed to my spikes.  I was number 27 and I started in the third alley.  I didn't have a very good race, I wasn't able to find the mental toughness to push myself to stick with the other runners.  My first splits were about 1:30s, but afterwards Bill told me that each lap I had slower splits.  I finished last and was very glad to just have finished.  Afterwards I did about a mile cooldown.

Fortunately, my mile was better.  I got about a half mile warmup, but my hips were hurting.  Bill gave me some stretches and drills to try and I think they worked.  I was in the first heat of the mile, and I was number 11.  While we waited until the time for us to start, I continued to do some of the drills.  I had a slow start, but I passed a lot of people.  Each lap I pushed past another group of runners.  I was doing much better than on my 2 mile, I was able to push myself.  Though I started at the back, I worked my way up, and on my last lap I realized that there was only a pack between me and the first place runner.  I began my kick with 300 to go and I got around the pack and could have caught the girl in first if she wasn't as far ahead.  Still, I was very satisfied with my kick and was happy with my time of 5:40, my best for this season.  I'm excited for regions to see how I do there.  Afterwards I did about a mile cooldown.
