Ran first marathon after 18 months of training (minus injury time) at age 52 in Logan, Utah on Sept 18, 2010.  Time was 4:16:56 compared to a goal of 4:15.

Second marathon was Oct 1, 2011 in the heat of St George.  Time fell to 4:52:27.

Short-Term Running Goals:

With two marathons behind me, my next goal is to run one in under 4 hours and potentially qualify for Boston within 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

My primary physical goal is to live a long, healthy life and to stay active to the end.  While I can, I expect running to be a big part of that.

4.65 miles in 43:23 for an average pace of 9:20/mi and average heart rate of 155bpm, max 155.

Splits were 10:20 (max 7:46), 9:04 (max 7:35), 9:02 (max 8:09), 9:14 (max 7:29), and 8:50 (max 6:40).  Couldn't have asked for better running conditions:  51 degrees and no rain.  I wore my St. George marathon shirt for the first time and I didn't want anyone to think that marathon runners were slow.

Lower body feels great.  Still lots of aches and pains in the chest area, but that doesn't affect my running much.

5.54 miles in 50:15, 9:05/mi with these splits 9:49, 9:08, 8:54, 8:57, 8:50, 8:38.  It was 45 degrees outside and that was cool enough for the deer to come down.  I saw three of them at the same spot I used to see them last year.

10.07

10.07 miles in 2:20:01.  The time would have been great for a marathon, but the distance was a little short.  At 50 degrees, the weather was great, and I sighted 3 more deer.

This was my first low heart rate run in a long time and I found it very difficult to keep my heart rate down.  Overall average rate was 129bpm with an average speed of 13:54/mile.

It should get better from here.
