Short-Term Running Goals:

Recovering from micro-fracture surgery on my right knee.  I tore the cartilage off of my knee while doing a speed-training run one month before Boston.  Doc gave me a cortisone shot so that I was able to finish Boston.  After the surgery, I was told to never run again. :(

Long-Term Running Goals:

Ran Boston on April 14, 2012!

"In truth, runners don't race other runners.  They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares.  And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better." Running for His Life by Michael Hall

Cortisone shot tomorrow morning!  I am hoping for the best!!!

I fly in on Saturday and will get to Boston about 4:30 and will head straight to the Expo to buy my jacket! :)

Some pics from DC.  We were at Arlington Cemetery in this pic with the Washington Monument in the background.

We had just left the White House.  That was a surreal experience.  I loved it!

We were waiting for the changing of the guard ---REALLY??  Couldn't he feel his butt crack getting air???  I love people watching.  I couldn't resist taking a pic and sharing it! heehee!

I'm not sure I can comment... A picture is worth a thousand words!

You got BOSTON 26.2 nailed!

Looks like a fun trip, you're cracking me up with your pics. Good luck at Boston!

Great pictures! I think you'll be fine at Boston. Take it in stride hehe :)

Just say no to crack :)

My flight arrives Saturday at 4:45pm. I'll probably see ya at the expo if I don't run into you at the airport. Are you bringing the family with you?

From Steam8 on Tue, Apr 10, 2012 at 14:08:18 from 166.70.55.77

I am flying in with a friend that is running too. My husband was going to come, but my daughter is performing in a ballet downtown this weekend. One of us needed to be here and see her perform. I hope I run into you at the airport!

From I Just Run on Tue, Apr 10, 2012 at 14:35:57 from 67.79.11.242

I was going to say "great pictures" until I saw the the last one :-) That last picture made me think of my first Half Marathon...Here's an excerpt from my Blog report:

"I also think it was about this point in the race that I saw the BIG guy with no shirt, his I-pod strapped to the back of his shorts in front of me. Every time he took a stride about 6 inches of his crack showed…I decided I couldn’t take looking at that ugly sight so drastically picked up the pace to get in front of him and stay there!"

I hope you don't have to view this type thing whil running Boston, it would probably ruin the experience!

IJR - What was a big dude with that much "crack" doing in front of you in the first place ;)

From I Just Run on Tue, Apr 10, 2012 at 15:26:27 from 67.79.11.242

I've learned not to judge a runner by his/her looks ... Old/Young/Big/Little/Skinny/Fat/Ugly/Pretty ... This Cracker was fast!!!!

Yay!! Boston is so great, just go enjoy yourself and love every minute. I'm so jealous that you get to run it!! And seriously how can you not know your crack is hanging out like that!!

I hope the shot and the trip go well! I'm SO excited for you to run Boston - yay!!!! Oh, and you gotta love a good candid butt crack shot :) We should go people watching together sometime.

From Steam8 on Wed, Apr 11, 2012 at 11:46:14 from 166.70.55.77

IJR..I love running behind interesting runners. The crack would have kept me entertained for miles!

gdoc....high butt crack is too bad, but no excuse! ha! I couldn't help but stare at his butt for over a half an hour in unbelief that he couldn't tell that his butt was hanging out when he was on the front row.

Got the cortisone shot and I am praying for the best! I have surgery scheduled for the 27th.

I am excited to see everyone. I have a few numbers and email addresses. We really need to plan on a meeting place and time. Send me your numbers or email and I will try to find a time that is good for everyone!

From I Just Run on Thu, Apr 12, 2012 at 08:41:18 from 67.79.11.242

Steam,

I'm anxious to hear how the cortisone shot worked....!

From Steam8 on Thu, Apr 12, 2012 at 10:18:14 from 166.70.55.77

I'm anxious too IJR. It feels better today than it has since it happened, but I still can't run. I run about 5 steps and it hurts and feels like my knee is going to collapse. It is going to take a miracle for me to run the race. I keep praying that I will be able to cross the finish line.

What is your bib #?

From Steam8 on Thu, Apr 12, 2012 at 11:00:52 from 166.70.55.77

17184

I'm in wave 2, but I am going to wait to run until wave 3 with my friend.

From Smooth on Thu, Apr 12, 2012 at 13:16:16 from 174.27.212.157

Amy ~ no worries! You can do it! Rhett ran Boston with a ruptured plantar fascia couple years ago. He carried a camera with him to take pictures along the course and really soak in the excitement and commarderie and the AWESOMENESS that distinguishes Boston from any other marathon. Enjoy the journey. You earned your bib!

Hey, I am in wave 3, may be I'll see you at Hopkinton. The back of the pack people have all the fun! :) :) :)

From Steam8 on Thu, Apr 12, 2012 at 16:07:20 from 166.70.55.77

Smooth, send me your cell so I can see you in Hopkinton. I am running with my phone/ipod. I don't know how much of the marathon I will be able to run, but I am going to have fun....good thing I will be in the back of the pack. I could use some fun!

My friend that I have been training with just found out she has a stress fracture! I feel so bad for her! She is going to try to run a couple of miles in her boot and just enjoy the experience as much as she can. I might be hobbling along with her.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Thu, Apr 12, 2012 at 16:41:48 from 24.18.125.122

Oh my! You two are gonna be quite a sight. I'll probably catch up to you before you make it out of the airport :) I hope you knee is feeling better. Sometimes it takes a few days to make a difference. I had two cortisone shots in my shoulder in 2010 and 2011. They helped a lot and I was able to avoid having surgery.

From Steam8 on Thu, Apr 12, 2012 at 19:34:08 from 166.70.55.77

Can't wait to see you at the airport! Look for the two limping ladies and one with a boot! saweet! This is soooo not what I imagined when I found out I was running Boston!

From Dan on Thu, Apr 12, 2012 at 20:33:15 from 24.209.83.20

So I should start in wave 3 eh ;) Im excited for ya, that shot should do you wonders, hope the knee feels good. We all have to catch up thats for sure.

From I Just Run on Fri, Apr 13, 2012 at 09:40:08 from 67.79.11.242

Good luck Steam...Hope the knee holds out! Whatever happens, have a great experience!!

From Smooth on Sat, Apr 14, 2012 at 19:50:12 from 66.228.74.2

How is your knee feeling? I hope it is much better!

I texted my cell # to you. I will have my cell phone with me so hopefully we can connect at the start. a group of us will be riding the bus up together.

Still hoping the weather would change and be much cooler than forecast! :)

Good luck. Be careful in the heat and with the knee, but you already know that. Just have fun.

From gdoc on Sun, Apr 15, 2012 at 19:50:39 from 98.202.193.212

Good luck to you Steamy! Enjoy the heck out of it.
