Went out to Ben Geren at dawn. Couple of people had expressed interest in joining me, neither one did, so I went solo. Legs felt OK, but I had very little energy. I did one extended 5.1 mile Necessary Loop and called it a morning. Realized later that today's my six-year running anniversary. I'll have to figure out the exact mileage later, but I think it's somewhere north of 11,000 miles. I'll see how I feel tomorrow, may do the 10 I meant to do today. Or maybe not, with intervals set on Tuesday. OK, so tomorrow is the six-year date. Total mileage 11,154 miles. |

Dawdled around this morning and wound up going back to MAFC for an indoor 6. Legs felt pretty good after Tiffany's massage; I progressed to sub-9 pace easily and held it. Last mile may have been close to MP

Speed work with George and the speedburners at Ben Geren. Half mile warmup, blast 880, walk for 2 minutes, repeat. They were going to stop after four reps, I shamed them into doing two more. I got under 7:00 pace on every one of them without too much problem even with the high humidity. Very encouraging workout.

First running date this morning with Tracey at Ben Geren at dark-30. Couple of Ashleys and Myra along for the run. We were going at 10:40 pace, which was no strain at all for me but Tracey was working hard. I think she had a good time though, and we'll do this again. Like on Friday.

Another morning run with Tracey, this time on the bike trail. Hillier than she was ready for, I suppose, but she got through it in about an hour. Not too bad. She's starting to get the bug, I think, and it's fun to watch. Yesterday wiped out by thunderstorm at dawn. I don't object too much to missing a tempo run because I'll get hammered tomorrow anyway.

Hammered 12 miles from the Schoolhouse with George and the gang. I haven't pushed a long run like this in a very long time. After first two miles were 8:47/8:42, the rest was quite fast and two miles were sub-8. Granted, they were downhill, but so is St. George. It was quite a bit cooler this morning which helped. And Lionel had watermelon for us after the finish. Yum! Very, very encouraging/.
