No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

Low to mid 40s, light rain.  Endurance w/ negative split and Leg Builder Hill in miles 19.5-21.5.

I had a great run today.  I tried to make the first half really relaxed to get a negative split.  I ran around various parts of Snoqualmie Ridge and descended the Parkway around mile 9.  Ran in Old Snoqualmie and a bit on the SVT before returning up the hill.  Coming up the Leg Builder was a lot harder at 19.5 than it usually is at 13 or 14, but extremely satisfying.

Another running forum I watch is discussing ice baths right now.  I know they are wonderful for recovery, every smart runner respects them, and elites swear by them.  However, I am far too much of a hedonist to embrace ice baths.  After eating a huge post-run brunch, I took a long soak in a nice HOT bath and loved every minute of it.  This has been my routine for some time now.  Someday I'm going to write a book called "Every Running Rule Can Be Broken."

I'm pretty happy about the week's running. I missed a scheduled tempo run on Thursday, but I just didn't feel up to it and the wind was over 20 mph most of the time.  I'm still close enough to my last race that I think it's fine.

I see that deuces are wild today...that's gonna score some big marathon points with that hill right at the end of a long run like that.

Super Job!

Love it, Sno. You give me motivation on days when I don't want to move! Let's break all the rules!

Way to crank out another 20+ mile run. You are the queen of long runs.

I can never bring myself to have an ice bath and I'm usually freezing when I get home after a long run and so I hope into a nice hot bath post run whenever I can. Let's hear it for rule breaking.

Chinese medicine doesn't EVER believe in ice. Not for injuries or for post run. Icing reduced blood flow, and actually kills (or further harms) tissue, thereby not allowing healing. I've done both hot with epsom salts and ice, and don't find a difference. Maybe its just the water!

Very interesting about Chinese medicine!
