Have run 22 marathons to date.

No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

Another rest day, and I hope to start walking tomorrow, jogging by the weekend. The quads are still MIA but not worse today, which is unusual (I typically get a 2nd-day-worse DOMS.)

It's fun to be on this side of the race and to ponder and plan.  I like to make lists right away of my impressions and what I learned during the race. I always learn something.  For example, in this marathon I learned that it was more helpful to focus on getting to the next aid station than my usual "one more mile."

I also make a list called "to be improved."  "Quad strength" always wants to be on the list, but it seems like sore quads are just part of marathoning.  "Better form in final miles" is definitely on the list.  "Psychology" is a big one too.  I intend to start practicing some visualizations to try to get over my fear of holding MP for all those miles.  I fear it, and that has got to go.

It is so nice to be home.  The Cascades got a big dump of snow yesterday and it is just beautiful.  I missed my cats and my own bed so much.  Travel wimp.  ;)

I'm impressed with the way you ponder and learn from your races. I appreciate it when you share the lessons that you've learned with us.

Welcome home.

Well, I don't know if fearing it is so bad, it just gives you something to go out there and CONQUER! Right? Fear presents challenge, and challenge leads to - triumph? I know the runs I fear the most are the ones that I feel the best after I accomplish.

Recovery sounds like it is going well.

In Marathon Woman she pretended to sit for 11 minutes a day. Of course she started only being able to do it for 70 seconds. I thought I would do it too and so far I really like it. I'm up to a minute a few times a week now.

Thanks, April. That makes more sense. It was a real non-sequeter there at first. Maybe I should add those to my day. It would help my skiing for sure.
