Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

53F, clear, unusually humid.  Easy run w/ butt kick drills.

I honestly don't know how you folks who watch TV get any running done.  My 9:00 PM bedtime on weeknights is sacred, but last night I succumbed to watching "just a bit" of a PBS documentary I wanted to see.... and, well, an hour later I was still watching.

I had the VCR all set up, so there really is no excuse. I guess I have no discipline whatsoever. Thank goodness no one handed me a chocolate cake as well.  Because the more tired I got, the less willpower there was to get up and just turn the thing off.  There was no hope of rallying my resolve "at the next commercial" either, since it was PBS. It was an awesome program ("Harp Dreams"), but I had to sleep in a little to pay for my weakness.

The bright side is that The Cat Who Is No Longer Obeyed let us sleep ALL NIGHT.  He's giving me what-for as usual this morning, but the longer chunk of sleep was wonderful.

9PM bedtime? that must be nice! i'm a night owl and tend to stay up very late and then moan and groan about it the next day when i'm tired at work. it is a vicious cycle, yet i do it every single day. on tues/thurs, i don't even get out of class until 10pm and then i have a 30 minute drive home!

yay for more sleep! it sounds like he is finally coming around.

No willpower? You? Hahaha. I have been having a very hard time getting to bed early this week, workouts have been sneaking into the early evening hours in a vicious trend. I, like you, prefer mornings!

So glad the cat is calming. I can only imagine the noise around here if my cats had to stay inside! Torture.

You've got lots of will power, but I know what you're saying about it weakening at night. I'm struggling with the vicious cycle of staying up too late myself. This is what summer does to me.

I'm glad you're showing that cat who's boss.

I'm with you on getting to bed early. I don't feel like I have a choice as I find myself just losing consciousness just sitting down to relax in the evening. Glad the cat histoire is going well.

DVR!!! Then I watch my shows on the weekends or during the day while I knit or quilt.

Glad that cat is letting you sleep!
