Have run 22 marathons to date.

No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

49F, calm, dry, dark.  Easy run.  20 min. weights.

My legs feel pretty good, though slow. And the stamina is not back yet.  Lots of little walk breaks.  Just one monkey left, holding a pathetic little goodbye note from the others: "Gone to Chicago and Portland to await duties there. See you next time."

The most extraordinary Halloween displays have popped up over the weekend.  Huge, brightly lit extravaganzas.  I think my favorite was the 20 foot high, 3-4 foot wide, glowing pumpkin tower.

some clever folks in my neighborhood decided to hang a giant rubber bat from their tree. as i passed under the tree branches this morning, a wind gust brought the bat out from the dark shadows and it smacked me in the face. i had no idea what it was and i completely panicked. i *may* have woken up a few people with my screaming and profanities. gotta love october!

My favorite halloween yard last year was a caution taped "meth lab" complete with huge bio hazard signs, chemical barrels and lifelike dummies in haz-mat suits. They even had a "contaminated candy" basket on the porch. It looked so realistic in this very nice little neighborhood surrounded by beautiful, undecorated homes. I wonder how their neighbors felt about it?

Honestly, I think Halloween just robs some people of their sense of judgement, not to mention good taste. I live in a very Stepford-wives kind of suburban 'hood, very clean and tidy w/ lots of CCR rules. And there is always this one house that displays a chain saw murder on their porch, just 10 feet from the sidewalk. Body parts, fake blood... It is disgusting. They either do not have kids or have totally messed up kids, OR have forgotten how frightening even a simple display can be to a very young child. I'm so freaked out by it that I don't even go over that way in October.

boy howdy am I missing the life in the the US or what! We just have 'live' movie going action: coming home from breakfast on Sun morning from downtown, and a huge Total fuel truck was driving down the road and made some taxi drivers mad. The taxi drivers blocked the truck so he had to slow down; the truck was slamming on his breaks and meanwhile, a passenger from one of the taxis jumped out and jumped onto the fuel truck and was half body in the driver side of the truck. Don't have an ending scenario as we rolled up our windows and waited for an opportune moment to quickly drive by and let them work out their differences! THE END.

I love how halloween over the last few years has started having lights on decorations. Growing up I don't remember halloween being huge on lights. kinda nice to see in the morning
