No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

Heavy rain, that's for sure :) Holy crud, it was nasty out this morning!

Nothing stops you, does it?

I'm glad someone likes this weather! ;-)

Same here - snow in the mountains. What's a G-A run?

From Snoqualmie on Mon, Oct 25, 2010 at 14:23:56 from 24.18.192.33

Jason, G-A = "General Aerobic." Can't remember if it's a term from Pfitzinger's program or Daniels. Or somewhere else. I use it to denote a run that is not hard but not jog/slow/easy either.

Re the rain. I've been wanting fall to come for so long that I'm starting out this season with a pretty good attitude. I'm told I'll need it. (La Nina year.)

But have you ever experienced a ski day where it's just nasty-snowing, yet all your gear is just right and you enjoy the slopes from inside a cocoon-like shell of Gortex and goggles? That's what it's like for me, now that I have conquered The Last Frontier: my feet. Got the SealSkinz socks last month and I stay dry and comfy for miles. The only part of me that really feels wet is my face and legs, but the latter are not cold (tights). Gortex cap, cycling jacket (with over-long sleeves to cover hands, tights, SealSkinz... happy.

i totally agree about the "cocoon-like" shell. if you dress properly, it is fun to be out in the nasty weather. i was completely soaked this morning (on the outside), but really i felt warm and dry and my run was very pleasant. i am sure the people passing in their cars thought i was miserable -- another reason why it is fun.

i am learning a lot from you, sno. there ARE some good things about winter weather, and i am trying to embrace the cold this year rather than just give up completely. it is hard, but i am trying :)

Do you downhill ski or just XC? I ski patrol on weekends at Alpental. I'm really looking forward to a good snow year!

From Snoqualmie on Mon, Oct 25, 2010 at 19:20:55 from 24.18.192.33

Allie - I know how hard it is for you! Great job getting the wet run done! I still crack up about "hence Utah."

Dave - Downhill only, actually. That is so cool that you're on the Ski Patrol!
