No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

40F, cloudy but dry. Very strong winds.  Mini-run.  20 min. strength & stretching.

I did not get to bed until after 10 PM last night - unheard of for me on a week night.  So I had the "opportunity" to practice non-perfectionism this morning.  First I almost did not get out of bed at all. The Cat Who Must Be Obeyed vetoed that. Then, I nearly went back to bed.  I felt so tired.  But, since I was up anyway, I figured I could at least run what amounts to a warm up and get the blood flowing.

You know you're a perfectionist if you have to practice non-perfectionism. Just kidding. I've got the perfectionist tendencies myself when it comes to running (not so much with other things).

Nice mini run.

Getting the blood flowing is a great way to start every day.

I know you were joking, but to me perfectionism means all-or-nothing thinking. "If it can't be just so I won't do it at all." So in a sense, you really can practice avoiding that kind of thinking, because it is poisonous and a dream-killer.

Good for you Sno - it sounds like you listened to your body and did what you needed to do! I hope you enjoyed the run you had!!

I am lucky that my job is very humbling - from constant reviews on papers to grants to students everyone is ALWAYS telling us how imperfect we are ;-).

Okay, I'm not a perfectionist. I do most things (everything?) imperfectly.

BTW, I'm reading "What to Say when You Talk to Yourself."

Nice job not being perfect, Sno! I am familiar with the "I can't do it perfectly, so I won't do it at all" attitude myself.

Carolyn - why would you talk to yourself? Just kidding.
