Have run 22 marathons to date.

No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

38F; partly cloudy w/ gibbous moon; dry and calm. Easy run. 25 min. strength.

This was supposed to be a "recovery run," but I didn't feel I needed any recovery. Yay for that!  Energy level good and legs felt good.

What is the deal with Under Armour?  I love thrift shops, and recently found a UA top in my size for $5, so I thought I'd try it out. I'm sure they are at least 10 times that price new.  Now I wish I had my 5 bucks back.  I was chilly and a bit uncomfortable (tight under the arms) in this top.  What is UA for and why is it so expensive?  I would prefer my Smartwool tops to this one any day, and if it were warmer I'd just go with a normal tech-fabric shirt.  Someone enlighten me please.  :)

Did you know that sugar is 4 times more addictive than cocaine?  Willpower, schmillpower. A clinic in Northern California uses amino acids to change their patients' brain chemistry and kick sugar addiction.  You can take their online quiz.  But you're going to have to burn your USDA Food Pyramid.

It's great your energy level is on high.

I sometimes feel powerless against the doughnut.

Sno, I went ahead and posted that on my FB page...makes sense!

I love Under Armour! What did you get? Cold gear? Hot gear? I have to say that it gets a bit itchy sometimes, but I do love the stuff. I use their tights in the winter. They are fab!

Congratulations on feeling great and not needing recovery. See how strong you are!

As for Under Armour, I've never tried it, but I do love the Smart Wool.

I took the quiz. I got pretty low scores. Maybe I was being too generous with myself. I do like a little piece of chocolate now and then, but I don't feel out of control. I could certainly cut back, though. I wonder if some people are more susceptible to the sugar addiction than others. In one of the books I read recently, maybe it was one that you recommended, it talked about how some people are hooked to nicotine after one cigarette, while others can smoke occasionally for years and never become addicted.

In any case, thanks for posting the link. I'm always interested in learning more.

I have not took the test yet because I know that I'm a sugar addict :) I have been much better lately, trying to eat much cleaner. I have been off soda for over a month, only drink stevia in my herbal tea/ice tea or lemon aid. But I know in the back of my mind I could be out of control.

Good to see that your run felt so good... you are getting so strong!

Don't know anything about UA or smart wool LOL

KP - I'm not sure what it is. Looks like a simple crew neck top. Very thin and very tight. Size Small - do you want it? I'll mail it to you as a gift. After laundering of course. ;)

Lori - Congratulations on dumping the sodas! I know that is hard to do, but they are just worthless. I hope you will look at that quiz website. I have heard Julia Ross in interviews and I have a great deal of respect for her work. Good health!

Size small... in my dreams!

Keep it and try it in different weather conditions. You might grow to like it. I can tell you that UA stuff is very expensive though. You got a great price!

Wanna know how drastic our winters are here? I didn't even know smartwool made clothes! I love their socks... I thought that was all they did! I'll have to look up some of their clothes online as I'm a huge fan of the socks!

I heart smartwool & icebreaker!! I've steered clear from UA because I'm scared of change... ;) Icebreaker can be pretty spendy as well, so I hunt for bargains on steepandcheap.com

I find that if I stay away from sugar I don't crave it, but once I have a little - I go overboard. Let's use yesterday as an example: I had 1 mini peanut butter cup in the morning, then continued to eat them through the day. I left the office with a total of 12 in my belly. Peanut butter cups are my cocaine. Sad but true.

From auntieem on Thu, Apr 01, 2010 at 21:49:15 from 67.182.146.94

Underarmour was developed for ski racers to wear under those race suits they wear! It is thin, true, but not all that warm. Its more of a wicking layer, so you'd wear it next to the skin, then a warmer layer over the top. More appropriate for skiing than running.

I love Ibex (another vesion of smartwool and icebreaker) for outdoor sports in general, but for running I just prefer a technical top 'cause I get warm when I run.

Good site--I took the quiz...not really surprised. I"m an addict!
