Have run 22 marathons to date.

No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

Mid 40sF w/ high winds (15-20 w/ gusts to 33), cloudy.  G-A run.

I ran in a new shoe today, the Asics Piranha.  It's a bit more substantial than the Mizuno Wave Universe, but still much less shoe than the Brooks ST3, which is now out of production.   I thought it was a very comfortable shoe. Very light, no arch support, very flexible. And by the way, this was definitely the shoe that Older Beautiful Lady was wearing at the half marathon.  Another good minimalist shoe in the quiver!  :)  (And 3 rejects are going back in the mail after failing the TM test. That's how I shoe-shop unless I can get into Seattle for my favorite running store.)

You're really getting the wind.

Thanks for doing my shoe testing for me. Just kidding, but only kind of. I like to buy shoes based on your recommendation. You haven't done me wrong yet.

I am curious about that shoe - I am going to try a pair as soon as the store gets in a new shipment with my size. I have usually liked Asics.

What is your favorite running store in Seattle? Where do you shop online? Can you return shoes for free?

WAY to show the wind who's boss! I like your shoe shopping strategy! Same questions as nicole.

Nicole - Super Jock n Jill on Green Lake is THE BEST running store in the world. They will take returns within a certain time period (cannot remember if it's 30 or 60 days) even if you have put hundreds of miles on the shoe. They also will let you run outside the store in the shoe while trying it on. They are staffed by real runners as opposed to "athletic people," and they carry a great selection

For online - I have been shopping at a number of places. But my current favorite is Running Warehouse. I just bought a shoe there on sale, which didn't work out. But! Not only was the shipping free (even though the sale price was dirt bottom - $15 for a pair of track shoes), but a return UPS label was actually in the box to make free shipping return completely easy! I just drop it off at my local UPS store. They've earned big loyalty points with that.

I am a "VIP" member at Road Runner Sports (not impressed, and I have to pay for return shipping) and at Zappos.com (so-so selection and no returns if you wear it outside).

I love your shoe reviews.. it is how I do my shoe shopping...my only complaint is you need to find some cheaper shoes! LOL

I checked with Fairhaven Runners and they don't have the Pirahna yet, but said they'd get it if need be. I think I will wait until I wear the Lunaracers out.

I love Asics and "Piranha" just sounds so cool! I need to check these out :) Thanks for the tip on Running Warehouse.

As far as local shops go here in the NW, Kym and I love FleetFeet in Bonney Lake. Owned and operated by actual runners. They also do a free video analysis of your stride to help select the right type of shoe.
