Have run 22 marathons to date.

No injuries, ever.   :)

Short-Term Running Goals:

Qualify for Boston (4:05 for my age/gender) - or, perhaps, to use my desire for a BQ as a way to get in the hated speed work so I don't just get slower and slower over the years.  This goal is "under (re)construction" right now, until I figure out whether it is truly what I want. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

To continue learning about myself and about running, and to enjoy being a fit, happy runner for life.   To always know why I am running and the best way to get the most (both mentally and physically) out of my runs.  To keep a sense of humor and remain optimistic about myself as a runner.  To enjoy running more and more with every passing year.

Personal:

Baby boomer generation.  Jogged a little in my 20's and 30's.  Started running seriously in 2002.  Low-carb runner since January 2010.

I love long runs and cold, cloudy weather.  I don't believe in "junk miles."  I am an optimist.  I adore dark chocolate, fog, my family, and knitting -- not necessarily in that order.

"As every runner knows, running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other; it is about our lifestyle and who we are."  -- Joan Benoit Samuelson

Being home is always a great relief to me, since I am not a fan of travel in general.  But I do miss the ocean, and having other people cook.  ;)

The worst thing, however, is some sadness and anxiety we've had.  When we were about 2.5 hours from home my cell phone rang and it was the pet/house sitter.  She hadn't wanted to frighten me or ruin my vacation, but my outdoor ("Cat Who Must Be Obeyed") was last seen Saturday night.  He's still not home this morning.  Our hope is that someone took him in (or stole him, depending on your point of view). He's a stunningly beautiful cat, and may have been extra friendly to someone in our absence.  If that's the case, he will soon be free, since trying to make him an indoor cat inevitably leads to howling and protest-peeing.  I'm trying not to think of the other possibility, which involves coyotes.

I've been walking since the marathon, and the legs are pretty weak but improving rapidly.  One of our friends from Newport, a member of my running club who totally nailed his marathon, is on the blog now, but doesn't have an entry available for comment just yet. He is DaveL.  Up and running! Please say hello when you have a chance.

ETA- The official marathon results are up, and I was shocked to see that I placed 14 out of 37 in my age group.  I would expect to be much further back on a fast course like Newport.  Not a great day overall for the menopause set.

Sorry to hear about your cat, I hope he finds his way home soon. Good to hear that your legs are recovering quickly.

I hope the Cat-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed finds his way home soon.

I think it was a tough day all around in Newport. I wonder if anyone who took more than 2 1/2 hours on that course (in other words, was out long enough to get the sun) managed to run a negative split.

See, you were faster than well over half the women in your age group! Not too shabby.

Oh, so sorry about your cat! It is heartbreaking to be missing a pet.

But, wow, 14th out of 37! That really puts the race day and the course in perspective, doesn't it?

glad to see you on again! So sorry that your cat is missing. I like those cat mysteries! Congrats on the 14th place finish. Impressive. I'm still chuckling over your menopausal comment.

Yeah you on your placing--this may sound horrid but while my bro was running I would text him "Hey a 70 y/o just beat you" But it gave me hope that yeah maybe I could run like that when I'm 70! Any who I vowed to run a marathon by the time I'm 50...I have about 20 years to improve LOL

Hope your kitty makes it home safely; I always get very worried when my two indoor/outdoor cats don't show up when expected.

I think being 14/37 in your AG is pretty good; I hope you're recovering from running in the heat, and that your sunburn is less painful.

Any word yet on the kitty Sno? I know that generally once summer sets in Titus will go missing for days at a time (though something really bad must have happened a couple of weeks ago, he hasn't been out at night for over two weeks ...)

From Snoqualmie on Wed, Jun 09, 2010 at 12:46:28 from 24.18.192.33

Thanks for asking, Bonnie. No, we are going on day 4 and no sign of him. Lots of people saw him on Saturday, but after that he disappeared. I am sick at heart but also still hoping. Lots of people keeping an eye out for him, and my fabulous pet sitter has alerted her network of colleagues and clients. All I can do is wait.

From Bonnie on Wed, Jun 09, 2010 at 13:07:34 from 64.119.33.134

Sno, is anyone close to you on vacation? The reason I am asking is that I have had several friends whose cats got locked up in peoples garages (and once in a neighbors basement) while they were out-of-town. You know how they (cats) are when it comes to investigating ...

I am thinking positive thoughts, I can completely empathize with what you are going through.

From CookieLegs on Wed, Jun 09, 2010 at 13:47:03 from 155.101.152.105

Good point. My cat was locked in a neighbor's back yard shed for 3 days once! You could try calling for your cat near any structures close to your house; if he is locked in one of them you will probably hear him meowing plaintively back.

Also, is he neutered? If not, he may just be out roaming . . .

From JD on Wed, Jun 09, 2010 at 14:59:19 from 70.96.78.157

Glad you had a safe trip all around. Sorry about the cat. One of our cats got trapped in someone's storage for 5 days. When I finally figured it out, I realized that I had heard him meowing several times over the week but didn't think anything of it. Hope he comes back soon!

From DaveL on Wed, Jun 09, 2010 at 15:47:59 from 209.206.250.53

I'm glad you're feeling better! It was great meeting up at a race.

One of our (two) cats disappeared two or three days ago too. We're hoping he shows back up, but he's a total homebody and this is very unlike him. Good luck with your missing family member!
