Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Wasn't going to do this but due to "family pressure" (which is worse than peer pressure), I signed up for this 2nd annual "family reunion race".  Got up at 3:30, got to bus ride at 5:05, barely missed the last of the 5 buses then had to wait for nearly an hour for the bus to return which really irritated me...could've slept for an hour more! Grrr!  Bus got to the start with barely enough time to use the pop, dropped off the warm up clothes (which I didn't even need) and found my nieces and nephews.

Started with my niece Karen behind the 2:20 pace group which pulled away after couple miles.  Legs are pretty tired...not fully recovered from two marathons in the last 4 weeks...not enough sleep with the family reunion/camping...family fun run around Silver Lake less than 30 hours earlier did a number on my ankles...excuses, excuses!  Gave Karen some pointers on downhill running, enjoyed the scenery.  Dropped Karen after mile 4, fully expecting her to catch me when I walked on the uphill, but she never did.  Took the Gu offered at the aid station before mile 6 turning onto the trail.  Shins started to tight up on the trail rollers.  Nice tail wind coming out of the canyon.  Legs felt okay so kept a steady pace and focused on passing runners.  Passed Karin R. around mile 10.  Getting warm, poured water on head.  Saw Josse running back for her mom.  Saw Mika with half mile to go.  Saw Warren cheering at the last turn.  Heard Lily, grandma and Larry cheering loudly as I turned onto the grass...just focused on the finish line and not tripped...haha!!!  Splits: 10:39, 10:43, 11:18, 11:02, 10:10, 11:34, 10:55, 11:28, 11:02, 10:47, 9:57, 10:21, 9:40.  I think the course is short!

So happy to see Allie, the female winner!!!  The family members did well too.  Nephew Jared won in his AG, his son took 2nd in his AG.  The little ones ran the 5Ks and a handful of them also placed.  For my generation, Roman and I are the only representatives.  We both took 2nd in our respective AG.  Gotta love these small town races.  Fun day to cap off our family reunion.  Spent the rest of the day with Eric and the grandkids at the splash pad close to home! :) :) :)
