Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Recovery + strides.  9.25 in 1:27:20.  AP:  9:26

Ran with Wendy and Carolyn on the Lehi JRP.  They have signed up to run the Thanksgiving Point Half in April and needed to do 9 this morning.  I wanted to see if the trail closure on the north portion is passable.  So we ran north and YES, the big dirt mount is gone and we easily stepped over the plastic fencing.  The trail was torn up but runnable.

Good job. Make sure you stay healthy!

From Kelli on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 15:45:48 from 71.219.89.155

Glad to hear it is runnable!! It is so my favorite place to run. I hope they keep it runnable just for us!

Have a GREAT week!

What do i pack for Boston???? What do you usually run in?

From RAD on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 16:39:48 from 67.172.229.125

YAY! I'm glad the trail is open. I really wanted to do my first 10 of the 'season' on the North portion this Saturday. The TP 1/2 looks like it would be a good race, you'll have to keep up aprised of how they like it!

Nice speed and distance for a Monday after a crazy and LONG run weekend!

From Rhett on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 16:46:53 from 74.32.222.202

Perfect run for the first day of taper.

Kelli, I pack a few different race outfits verying from shorts and a singlet to short sleeves, to long sleeves, to a running jacket and tights with gloves and a beanie and the baseball cap option, etc. You never know what the weather might be there in April.

From Smooth on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 17:06:17 from 174.23.251.49

Paul ~ Yep, nothing stupid, stay healthy! THANKS for the reminder.

Kelli ~ Like Rhett said, Boston weather in April varies. I pack short sleeve, long sleeve, gloves, cap, headband, tights, shorts, jackets. Temp has been cooler the last two years (mid 30s-40s). I raced in s/s top, shorts, hats and gloves. The first year I tossed the gloves by mile 3; but last year I had them on the whole time. Bring rain gear, such as poncho or garbage bag just in case. Can you believe we're less than 3 weeks away? Party time!

Rachel ~ The trail isn't exactly open. The construction for the bridge/road is just started and expect to finish Fall 2011. Today, it was passable, meaning the fence was low and there's no mountain of dirt to climb up and down on. I imagine they will make it accessible to pedestrians but not bikes. The Thanksgiving Point Half runs thru that trail.

Anyway, my plan is to run there this Sat. I want to be done in time for General Conference. So I will probably start at 7am or earlier, run the south portion first and save the north hills later. I have a 17-18 miler and hoping to do 10 of them at mp. It will be fun to see you there!

Rhett ~ Not as perfect as your mp run! NICE JOB!

From RAD on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 17:29:34 from 67.172.229.125

ooh, you'll be there early? I may have to meet up with you! I need to be home by 10 as well, but I don't think I could keep up with your MP miles. You'll have to let me help you warm up :)

From Kelli on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 18:21:42 from 71.219.89.155

So, you have to pack all of this in your carry on in case they lose your luggage, I suppose.

From Rhett on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 18:33:09 from 74.32.222.202

Yep, but running gear is small and you can always wear your running shoes to church on Sunday. :) Over half the people there will be running Boston also.

From Kelli on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 18:37:01 from 71.219.89.155

SO, basically I must be prepared for winter or summer running. hmmmm.....I was so hoping to finally put the winter running stuff away!

I am not sure Smooth would let me wear tennis shoes to church, she had a hard time when i wore a ponytail!!!

From Smooth on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 23:40:35 from 174.23.251.49

Rachel ~ Yay! I will love to run with you. I think I'll start on the south portion first so I can do the uphill later. My mp is anything under 9:05. Piece of cake for you.

Kelli ~ You can wear whatever you want to church! :) I wore some ugly granny shoes last year, whatever is comfortable. Pack light b/c you may be lugging around your suitcase on the subway.

I just ordered my Boston wardrobe. I'll check out the jackets at the expo before purchasing them. BTW, there's no sale tax, I think, so be sure you have extra space for the "souvenirs".

From AmberG on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 23:56:54 from 64.255.88.27

AHHH, , , Boston is right around the corner! I'm so excited for you, , , all this talk of packing, your wardrobe, one of your last long runs. . . it's all so exciting. Hope you have a great week :)

From Kelli on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 13:50:38 from 71.219.89.155

SO, what did you order?!? I am really stressing about this now!

From Toby on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 15:48:16 from 216.194.124.36

Way to go Smooth!

From Smooth on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 17:51:41 from 174.23.251.49

Kelli ~ I ordered the Adidas Supernova short sleeve shirt (core teal/black), the matching black shorts and the sleeveless shirt. My friend, Marcie and I are wearing the same matching outfit. We'll figure a sign to put on our backs.

I splurge on these Boston Adidas clothes b/c I wear them to all the other marathons throughout the year.

NO WORRIES! NO STRESS! Pack what you train in. If you're gonna wear something new, make sure you try running in them before race day especially the shoes and socks. It's gonna be SO FUN!!!

From Kelli on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 17:55:01 from 71.219.89.155

So, if it is cold you just wear tights and long sleeves underneath?

From Smooth on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 18:06:04 from 174.23.251.49

If the temp dips below 30 F, we may wear our tights and the long sleeve Boston yellow shirts we got last year! If it's cold at the start it will be cold at the finish. I have not had to wear tights yet. In 2008, the temp was in the 40s. Last year it was a bit colder and I was fine w/ short sleeve and shorts.

From Kelli on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 18:06:58 from 71.219.89.155

I think i am going to buy a skirt with capris underneath instead of shorts. That ought to work.

From Smooth on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 18:10:02 from 174.23.251.49

Just make sure you trained in them beforehand...nothing new on race day!

From Kelli on Tue, Mar 30, 2010 at 18:12:04 from 71.219.89.155

I have some with the biker shorts in them, so i am sure the capris will not really be any different. I will get them ordered right away!
