Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

I have been amazed at many of the patients I have worked with who have had amputations. Amazing!

Sorry about your shins. :(

I really wish I could make it to Poky. I tried to swing it but it is just not feasible this time around.

Love you!

As I was reading your blog, the song "Smooth Operator" kept playing in my mind. I realized I don't even know what that song is about, but I feel like you're an amazing lady that manages to do so much positive for others and accomplishes so much.

How great that you got to run with your hubby & friends. What will your March marathon choice be?

From AmberG on Fri, Aug 31, 2012 at 15:03:31 from 74.211.4.105

Oh how I've missed SMOOTH!!! It looks like you are still little miss Energizer bunny, going around spreading running sunshine. You have your hubby hooked to running huh? :) Maybe he'll run the Spectrum 10K.

You going to Boston in April? You want a March marathon? I think there the "Sand Hollow" marathon is in March here in St.George, it's by the reservoir and loops into Hurricane....local, low-key, and one killer hill. fun right?

So glad you are healing from (stress fracture #2???) :( dang you are patient!

From Nancy on Fri, Aug 31, 2012 at 15:29:10 from 76.23.21.118

Nice run. I hope you can run a marathon in March. My daughter that had a stress fracture had to wear a cast for 8 weeks. She had the cast off now but has to wait another 6 weeks to run.

I hope your run went well this morning.

Phoenix is in March.

Hey Ms.Smooth, get off you dead end and get back out in the street. Hey why don't you and Larry load up and come run the Surf City USA Marathon with me and Hillbilly Runner in Febuary '13.

And Ms.Smooth, "You are nothing but SPECIAL"!!!!

From Kelli on Mon, Sep 03, 2012 at 20:48:30 from 67.172.235.55

HI FRIEND!!! Glad things are going OK. Why is the tape coming off? I think I need to buy stock in KT tape...we all use it so much!

Tell Larry HI!

QP ~ I'll have to google "Smooth Operator"! :) I signed up for the Phoenix Marathon on March 2. It's a Sat. marathon. With the finish (and bus ride to the start) at Mesa about 35 min from where my son, David, is going to med school; I'm excited to go visit him then.

Amber ~ yep, hubby started running at the time I was lamed up with my second sf. He really enjoys it which surprised me. He runs 3 miles most days of the week. His first race will be Spanish Fork 5K. May be I'll get him to run Spectrum.

I'm about 60% sure of signing up for Boston as it is my 6th and may be last Boston for awhile. I think Sand Hallow may be too close to Boston. It was this year. So I signed up for the new Phoenix Marathon on March 2 as my last long run before Boston! :)

Nancy ~ I'm so sorry about your daughter's stress fracture. I feel her pain. Hope she is on the mend and able to resume running in a few weeks.

Rhett ~ yep, Pokey is in the bag! And I signed up for Phoenix. I hope I will see you then. I'm excited to go visit David who's going to Midwestern in Glendale in March.

Slick ~ you say the kindest thing! Thanks you for inviting me to join you and Ronnie for the Surf City. I'd love to but I think it is a Sunday marathon, right? Nothing wrong with running on Sunday, I just have made the promise with my Heavenly Father and His Son that I will rest on the Sabbath and try to honor Him and my covenants with Him! :) Surf City looks awesome though and I am certain that you boys will rock it there again next year! :)

Kelli ~ the tape was coming off because it's been on for 5 days and the edges were already not sticking. I said HI to Larry for you and he said HI back! :)

From Rhett on Wed, Sep 05, 2012 at 14:30:30 from 170.215.58.122

Smooth, Midwestern has a number of health profession programs. What kind of doctor is David going to be? We will definitely have to try and meet up there.

From Smooth on Thu, Sep 06, 2012 at 21:16:49 from 65.130.14.36

Rhett ~ David hasn't quite decided yet. He took his 1st board exam this past summer and is now doing different rotations. His latest interest is in OB-GYN. Last week he assisted in two baby deliveries and one C-section. I know he likes procedures and don't mind the odd/tough hours. At one point he was interested in emergency medicine. So, we'll see.

And yes I can't wait to meet up in March! :)
