Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Funny how tired one gets or feels with doing absolutely NOTHING!!!

Karen and Wendy picked me up to drive to the District for their run with RAD on her birthday.  The sight of them in running clothes and me in winter coat and the hideous BLACK BOOT about brought me to tears!  Snow!  RAD's cute boys' smiles put a bright spot in my heart.

I sat in RAD's family room reading and watching the little boys play and waited for the girls to return from their running.  They came in drenched w/ sweat and melted snow and the familiar post-run happy glow.  We then piled in RAD's van and headed to Kneaders for breakfast!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Rachel!!!!

Got home, sat and read and fell asleep....prisoner to the boot....feeling very very tired! :(

You are the most wonderful woman. I am so happy that you were able to celebrate Rachel's birthday with her even though you could not run.

Hang in there, SSF.

I love you! :)

I am SO SO SO grateful for you! I would've been solo if it wouldn't have been for you. You are the most amazing woman, you WILL get through this injury and in a few weeks you'll forget it ever happened. Trust me, I know :)

Don't be a slave to that boot. Master it! It's okay to cry, I know I did my fair share of it. But, when you are done crying pick yourself up, wipe yourself off and carry on.

You made my day today, that is worth it, isn't it? :) Thanks again Smoothie, I'm SO grateful for you.

So sorry that you are prisoner to the boot. I've know exactly how it feels. That is great news that you will only be down 2 to 3 weeks IF YOU BEHAVE AND FOLLOW DOCTOR'S INSTRUCTIONS! Enjoy the down time from running and recharge your batteries so when you get to run again, you'll be all revved up and ready to go.

OK, so I am just getting caught up here. I have not had a blogging second this week, hate it when life gets that busy!

So sorry to hear about your foot, BUT I do think the prognosis is good. 2 weeks is not so bad for a broken tiny little limb, right? I know it will be a long 2-3 weeks, but be good and you will still be able to run Buffalo, right????

Take care! Love ya lots!!! Hope the cold is doing better.

SSF ~ Thanks for saying the kindest things! Of all people, you are the one who knows the joy of seeing others having a great time. Love you too!

Rachel ~ the pleasure is all mine! It gave me great joy and satisfaction to see you back on the road running. So so so so happy the rest of your birthday was as fabulous as ever! :)

Good advise on not being slave to the boot. Right now not running isn't bothering me that badly because of the stupid cold and general fatigue. I am sure once I feel better and wanting to run then I will cry buckets of tears!!!

Rhett ~ that is what my son, Eric, kept telling me, to enjoy the downtime. He said I have never taken a break or rest from running since 2006,,,can't be true, can it?

Kelli ~ I should clarify what the doctor said, no running for next 2-3 weeks, then he will evaluate again after that. He did say most stress fracture takes 6-8 weeks to heal, if I jump back into running too soon, I risk re-injury. I may have to forgo Buffalo if I want any chance of running Boston. Stink!

The cold is doing a little better! Thanks! I think coughing and hecking should be considered a form of workout! :)

No worries, I was just going to run it to hang out with you for a few hours!! Take care of the foot, Boston is way more important.

Smooth, you are such a kind friend! We were missing you on our run this morning! Soon enough...soon enough!

SSF~

Just a quick I love you! I know that it is often difficult to blog when you are not running. However, you are missed.

What a great friend and amazing woman to watch the boys so RAD and the girls could run. I hope you find a way to enjoy activities through the next two weeks even with the boot.

Take that ugly black boot to the swimming pool and do some laps.....

From Bec on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 09:33:30 from 68.206.133.141

Hope you are doing well Smooth. This will pass and you will come back stronger!

From Smooth on Tue, Feb 21, 2012 at 14:38:40 from 174.27.219.252

Toby ~ I was thinking about you and RAD running on the JRP. I miss you girls so much. :(

SSF ~ thanks for checking on me. I try not to get too discouraged. It is hard to get on the blog the last few days. Miss you so much!

QP ~ I didn't really watch the boys, their daddy was home. I was just watching them play...made the time go by fast while the girls ran. RAD gave me some tips on making the boot a friend instead of an enemy! She's great!

Slickster ~ until the doc. gave me okay to get in the pool, I'll have to stick with bike and elliptical. Besides I don't know how to swim. I would drown, seriously! but thanks for the suggestions.

Bec ~ thank you for your words of encouragement. Yes this will pass. Lowell reminded me that of all the ills that befall runners, I got the least of the list. That tiny 5th metatarsal will heal and I'll be back running soon!
