Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

It was a great day for a run today! I hope we get more of them soon.

Good job on your run and keeping up with the yoga.

From Rhett on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 13:46:35 from 170.215.58.122

Glad to hear the snow is gone. Have fun tomorrow, and good luck.

From huans32 on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 14:51:20 from 138.64.2.76

Great job smooth on your 10k.:) Are you doing the yoga dvd like Teena does?? Or you going to a class??

From Smooth on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 14:57:07 from 71.36.65.79

Yep, same DVD Teena introduced me to. I think I need to go to a class though. Just too self-conscious to go to any gym.

From Maurine/Tarzan on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 15:02:36 from 97.117.61.64

Great job on the run, Smooth. Enjoy the race tomorrow.

From rhett on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 15:52:32 from 170.215.58.122

Hey Smooth, I was just looking at the milage board and this year you and I are right next to each other. I'm at 605.9 and your at 604.43. Good thing Chase got me out for that 2 mile run last night or you'd be ahead of me. Looks like we've both logged about the same number of miles in prep for Boston.

From Smooth on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 16:17:21 from 71.36.65.79

Very cool Rhett! I had no idea our mileages (so far this year) are that close. But you're passing me up quickly though as you're still building up while I'm tapering down. I've never done 70 mpw. That just seems insurmountable for me. Interestingly 50 mpw is getting more comfortable. Did you train with 70 or higher mpw in your last training cycle where you ran 3 days a week?

From Rhett on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 16:58:55 from 170.215.58.122

In my last training cylce I ran 4 days a week and I maxed out in the upper 40s. Last year for Boston I maxed at 70, but I was running much slower miles with far more junk miles than this year. It was after Boston that I started researching on going sub 3 and found that I wasn't training fast enough.

From Teena on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 17:09:47 from 67.177.20.13

GOOD LUCK TOMORROW!!

I really want to come to the finish but we have a baptism at 10. STINK!! We'll see.

LLL

You will do AWESOME!!! :)

From Smooth on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 17:30:07 from 71.36.65.79

Rhett,

Thanks for sharing that insights. You're constantly fine-tuning your training. I'm very impressed with your dedication and the improvement.

Teena,

The race starts at 9am. Kelli will be in around 10:40 and me around 11:00. You do what you need to do. But we'll be at Rock Creek Pizza 276 W 12600 S Riverton, for lunch. Would LOVE to see you either way. Oh, the finish line is at Dr. O. Roi Hardy Park 12400 S. 1000 W. It's a park just off of the JRP.

From Teena on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 17:38:18 from 67.177.20.13

Would it be totally evil of me to skip the baptism??? Ry said if I wanted to go to the race and take Rylee with me (she has been dying to see you) that he would take the others to the baptism and represent!! :)

Would I be oh so evil skipping a baptism to see my friends finish a race? Yikes ... I don't know what to do!

From Smooth on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 17:44:02 from 71.36.65.79

Teena,

It depends whose baptism it is. If it's MY investigator, or a family member, or a very very close friend's family member, I would NOT miss the baptism. You can always see us finish at a race; but someone close to you or important to you only gets baptized ONCE. JMHO! LOVE YOU.

From Teena on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 17:47:14 from 67.177.20.13

You are right, I should probably go to the baptism.

Not family, but a friend's son.

See ... I need you to help me keep my priorities straight!! :)

I love you.

From Teena on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 17:48:46 from 67.177.20.13

On the other hand, we weren't invited until after 10 pm last night ... so ... maybe ...

STINK!!!

(alright ... I'll go to the baptism ... but know that I am thinking about you and really wanted to see you finish!)

I love you!!

From Smooth on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 17:57:05 from 71.36.65.79

Teena,

You are so cute. I just love you. No guilt, no evil feeling, no worries about what other people think. You CARE too much! Have a wonderful weekend!

From Teena on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 18:04:40 from 67.177.20.13

You have a wonderful weekend too my soul sista!!

Finish Smooth Fast and Strong!! :)

(encourage Kelli not to run all out will you ... she had such a fantastic race last Saturday ... we can't let her get injured. looks like she is being very smart right now, but races sometimes make us do crazy things.)

From Smooth on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 18:08:10 from 71.36.65.79

You tell her. It should come from you, not me. I don't do crazy things, hah!

From Teena on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 18:11:47 from 67.177.20.13

I've already told her. I think she will be smart and stick with her plan. Just remind her! (Do you have any idea how hard it is to study on a Friday when the sun is shining???)

From Smooth on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 18:14:56 from 71.36.65.79

You have a test again tomorrow? Stinks.

From Teena on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 18:17:38 from 67.177.20.13

No test tomorrow.

Just normal studying. :)

From Smooth on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 18:21:18 from 71.36.65.79

Good, no test. I'm proud of you for studying hard, er hardly studying. Well, you need a break. The sun is about to set. No burning the candle on both ends. Go on a hot date with Ry.

From Teena on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 18:29:36 from 67.177.20.13

Tonight we are just kicking back at home. I am in the process of trying to convince him into coming to the gym with me early in the morning tomorrow (he is not a morning type of person when he doesn't have to be). Then tomorrow night we are going out. Also, we have decided to pick up raquetball again at least one night a week. We used to be really into that. That'll make for awesome crosstraining! We both hate to lose so get quite a good workout when we play. :)

From Teena on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 18:30:45 from 67.177.20.13

(don't know if my stress fracture will handle it quite yet though ... so no worries ... our first game I am going very easy and seeing what happens.)

From Amber on Fri, Mar 27, 2009 at 20:40:20 from 64.255.88.143

Good Luck on your race Smooth---Go gettem' tiger!, , , I'll be anxious to read your report . . .! Crazy how cold it got this week, hopefully next week will be spring like yet again.

From leslie on Sat, Mar 28, 2009 at 23:14:11 from 76.23.61.78

Smooth, did you end up doing the half today? Just checking up on you girlfriend!!

From RAD on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 02:20:22 from 67.166.99.8

Smooth - no race report yet?!? I thought that 1st place medal would've inspired you to post by now :) You did awesome and I had a wonderful time with you and meeting your husband! Have a beautiful Sunday!

From Bec on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 02:54:15 from 67.177.35.60

Where is your race post? I have been waiting for it all day. I loved you at the finish line, you had ZIP. Where does all of that energy come from? You could have ran an entire marathon today. :) You are full of smiles, love you!

From DonGardinero on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 11:31:13 from 75.162.98.167

Smooth, you didn't get injured, did you? I hope everything is ok.

From Smooth on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 11:45:18 from 71.36.65.79

THANKS everyone for your interests and concern. YOU'RE THE BEST!!!

No, I didn't get injured. After we got home, I had to go grocery shopping and wash the car, then we took the family and my bro-in-law for dinner at UP-Chuck-a-rama. After that I was on the phone with the missionary who taught me the gospel. She and her husband are going to HK on a mission this summer. We talked for over 2 hours 'till bedtime. SORRY to worry you, Dale!

From DonGardinero on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 11:48:15 from 75.162.98.167

LOL...Thanks Smooth.
