Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

5 weeks since sf and zero running!  Felt like I've fallen off the face of the earth or the running world has dumped me in some dark ugly pits!  :(  Every morning I get up, go through the routine of assessing the foot pain, then numbly put on one running shoe.  I avoid looking out the front window as the sight of runners would open the flood gate of tears.  Today my thoughts were on the AF Canyon 1/2, allie's wedding 5K relay.

30 min recumbent bike (P2, biceps, triceps)

65 min elliptical

Went to matinee movie and dinner with hubby, Jeff and Jenn.  Ditched the boot for the first time and walked fine with the Darco shoe.

I'm sorry, Smooth. But I'm glad you got to ditch the boot for a bit.

I hate that feeling! I'm SO sorry Smooth, I know it stinks rocks! You are doing a great job of being patient, and know that I'm always thinking of you and wanting you back on a run with me!! If we can't do Park City I don't want to do it at all :( I miss you. Climb out of that pit and know we all love you!!!

From Kelli on Sat, Jun 23, 2012 at 18:50:27 from 67.172.235.55

Ah, man! You are being good and showing self control (something so many of us lack!) We all know how hard it is, and especially on you---the most enthusiastic runner of all! I thought about you today and our EPIC run up that canyon last year---so much fun! I know you will be back at it soon and better than new...in the mean time, let's do lunch! Name the day, and I will be there. I miss ya and I need another hug and some perspective, I have lost my mojo.

From Smooth on Sat, Jun 23, 2012 at 18:59:05 from 174.27.192.130

RAD ~ yes, climbing out of the pit...not giving up on PC yet.

Kelli ~ I am available for lunch any day (other than next Mon when I have a funeral to go to). You can't loose your mojo...I live vicariously thru your running! :)

Smooth - I feel for you. I know it is hard to be on the sidelines -- we all have been there. Just hang on a little while longer and you will be back killing the miles in no time.

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 26, 2012 at 14:08:18 from 174.27.192.130

Nancy ~ thank you for the encouraging words. It was very hard to miss out on the AF1/2 as it was one of my favoritest races last year.

Leslie ~ yep, have to find something to do to keep me from going bonkers! :)

Teena ~ thanks! So good to hear from you! The Darco shoe is very dorkus! :)

Tim ~ you are not kidding when you say we've all been on the sidelines. And you are SO right about waiting patiently. I need to learn from my own mistake. I don't want a third repeat and another set-back!
