Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

15 MLR in 2:20:14

Really dreading this run, the thought of running over two hours by my lonesome self was simply not appealing and flat out agonizing!  It didn't help that I woke up tired.

Mile 1-3  (11:00, 10:45, 10:00) ~The first 3 miles were painfully slow, with some sparse snow sprinkles.  It was colder than I thought.

Mile 4-6  (9:40, 9:35, 9:33)  Still dragged on with haziness (both the environ and the mind).

Mile 7-9  (9:25, 9:23, 9:22) Finally got in the groove and just kept putting one foot in front of the other.

Mile 10-12 (9:17, 9:10, 9:10) The sun finally peeked thru momentarily.

Mile 13-14 ( 9:01, 8:54, 8:47)  Hurried up to get the run over with.

Drank gatorade starting at mile 3 and then every 2 miles.

Breakfast:  Kashi cereal with milk.

Lunch:  Boiled egg, a large sweet potato, orange

Snack:  Handful of almonds.

***No sugar challenge report***

Before bedtime we had a "sweet attack".  Hubby had cocoa w/ sugar toasts.  I had NO SUGAR added cocoa my SSF gave me and a handful of nuts.  Can I make it 'till I can cheat on Valentines Day?!!! :-O

Wow, great run and great job on the no sugar diet!! You are strong!

From JulieC on Tue, Feb 09, 2010 at 16:47:40 from 71.35.216.195

uh did you notice each mile was progressively quicker!!? You're alive!! Sorry it was a lonely run. Some days those MLR just seem too daunting. Better running days ahead :D.

From Bonnie on Tue, Feb 09, 2010 at 18:30:13 from 128.196.228.134

From Nancy on Tue, Feb 09, 2010 at 20:45:45 from 76.27.19.206

I'm sorry you had to run alone. Why are you doing such high miles in the middle of the week?

From AmberG on Tue, Feb 09, 2010 at 22:27:42 from 64.255.88.27

Smooth, way to get through a run that was hard even before it started! You did it! . . .. and YES you can make it till Valentines Day!!! I'm having my free day on Sat so I can enjoy anything I want to buy! Way healthy eating today too, , , when spring comes all this running will be EASIER and seem LIGHTER !!! hang in there!

From Smooth on Tue, Feb 09, 2010 at 23:14:17 from 174.23.239.148

Nan ~ THANKS! Being accountable to Amber and other NO Sugar challengers helps alot.

Julie ~ I used to run solo all the time and didn't know the difference. Now, it's NO fun especially when I'm SOOO slow!

Bonnie ~ THANKS for the encouragement!

Nancy ~ I'm following the Pete Pfitzinger's 18/70 plan. It has at least one Medium Long Run (MLR) a week. 15 is the longest for the MLR though, thank goodness!

Amber ~ You're doing SOOO GOOD! Easier and lighter sounds good right now...guess I need to be patient! :)

I have the same thing to say to you as I did to Teena, you are awesome! I report my measly little miles and dash over to check on you guys and I feel so lame! But like I said to Teen, someday I will be up there with you guys running 12, 15, 26 like its no biggie!

No sugar hmmm....I need to do that but I know better!

From Andy on Wed, Feb 10, 2010 at 09:31:56 from 199.190.170.29

You describe the MLR perfectly. That's exactly how I feel during mine.

From auntieem on Wed, Feb 10, 2010 at 11:36:38 from 24.17.177.218

How satisfying it is to complete a run you really didn't want to do! Great work. You are doing great with the sugar traps; good luck with V-day!

From Kelli on Wed, Feb 10, 2010 at 13:03:29 from 71.219.89.82

YES, you can make it! I love sugar free hot cocoa, you never even know it is not i there!

Nice run by your lonesome, I hate those runs. I get so bored talking to myself!! BUT YOU DID IT! Have a good day!

From Kathie on Wed, Feb 10, 2010 at 13:04:11 from 63.248.105.188

I should have run with you yesterday (Tuesday) we would have had a blast and I know you could have helped me out.

From RAD on Wed, Feb 10, 2010 at 14:08:28 from 67.172.229.125

What a great run! Those long lonely runs are the ones that get us through (mentally) the last 6 long lonely miles of the marathon!!

You're doing AWESOME on your no sugar challenge - and you WILL make it, no can about it!!

From Smooth on Wed, Feb 10, 2010 at 19:14:12 from 174.23.239.148

Annie ~ Thank you for the kind words. You are doing great. Baby steps! When I started running, I was so proud of myself doing 3 miles/day. Now I'm so stiff that it takes me that many miles just to loosen things up. See, it's all relative. Keep it up. Enjoy running and stay healthy.

Andy ~ It's comforting to know that even the PRO like you feel the same way about these tedious MLRs.

auntieem ~ THANK YOU for the encouragement. How's your ankle today?

Kelli ~ THANKS! You're my inspiration!

Kathie ~ That's exactly what I thought about our Tue runs. Too bad we lived so far apart. Can't wait to hang out with you in a few weeks!

Rachel ~ Sure know those "death march" feeling at the end of the marathon. Somehow it never gets easier though. I think I need music. When are you going to start running? I sure could have used your company!

From RAD on Wed, Feb 10, 2010 at 19:51:07 from 67.172.229.125

unfortunately, with the set back this week...I may not be running again until December - seriously, I'm SO frustrated!!! You have to come back SO slowly it's hair pulling business!!!

From Snoqualmie on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 11:59:23 from 24.18.192.33

Awesome run!!

I'm really impressed with your focus on the sugar challenge. I believe so many of us eat too much sugar - especially us runners. And really, we do much better developing our fat burning by limiting the carbs, imo. Have you read "Good Calories Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes? Inspiring book. I recently lowered my carbs and increased my fat, and it is working really well for me. Best wishes!
