Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

What a day!  I really wanted this speed day to work.  Had hubby dropped me off at the track on his way to work.  The temp was nice and cool.  Did the 2 mile warm up and the Garmin ran out of battery.  Stink!  Drove home (football son had my car there at the HS) and was going to run on the treadmill instead.  But company is still asleep; so grabbed my regular Timex and headed back to the track.  Just then, the city road crew came by to inform me that they're going to oil the road so I had to have all vehicles off the road.  Had to write a note for my visitors to move theirs when they get up and tell the deck guys to park their truck and trailor in my driveway.

Got back to the track 45 min. later.  Did another mile warm up and started the intervals.

Wk 8 speedwork calls for 1600m @7:50 (400m RI), 3200M @16:00 (800m RI), 2 x 800m @ 3:47 (400m RI)

I wrote all that down on a piece of paper.  Figured I just had to keep track of how many laps to run fast and recover and hit the split button on the Timex.  So here's what I got:

1600m @ 7:34  (400m RI @ 2:30)

3200m @ 15:11 (800m RI @ 6:24)

800m @ 3:46 (400m RI @ 3:05)

800m @ 3:48 (400m RI @ 2:45)

1 mile cool down @ 8:45

I think the football guys are used to me being there now.  The soccer girls were the awesome *cheering squad* today.  So glad the speedwork is done.  Now if I can just get a nap among the zoo/circus...don't think it's gonna happen!

Nice speed I love that you are getting so much smarter when you train. I remember when I didn't know what repeats were.

From Bec on Tue, Aug 11, 2009 at 18:23:58 from 67.177.35.60

How do you get to the track, go home, and come back? You are amazing, I would have gone straight home, and not thought twice about going back for the workout. Good girl!

From Smooth on Tue, Aug 11, 2009 at 18:32:39 from 71.35.210.115

Andy,

THANKS!

Jon,

:-)

Kathie,

I'm with ya! Repeats were what my Suzuki teacher said to play (over and over again). Splits were: banana split, half of a dinner entre. I'm still trying to figure out how to do the watch thing, count the laps and how much to do the RI.

Bec,

I did go straight home to hop on the TM; but the TM is in the same room where some of the visiting family are sleeping. Larry forbade me to "invade" their privacy. What nerve!!!

The saving grace was that the temp. was nice so I didn't mind going back to the track for another attempt. It's all good.

Wow, you were very persistent to get that run in. I agree with Bec. After a few attempts, I may have just thrown in the towel. Nice speed!

Jeepers you are busy LOL Way to get it all in! I really need to make an effort to add some speed work.

From Teena on Wed, Aug 12, 2009 at 11:47:30 from 67.177.20.13

Smoothi,

You ran so much faster than you were suppose to!!! You silly girl. You are far too fast for your own good!

I love you.

Hope you got a nap.
