Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

What a beautiful Fall day!!!  So nice to sleep in!  Ran 8 solo miles with 1 on the graded dirt trail along the canal.  There's a pedestrian tunnel at 1200 W where they are working on paving the connector from 1200W to Timp Hwy.  They are also grading an equestrian trail.  Some landscaping is in place.  I am so excited to see this trail system to be completed.  It is so close to home!!! :) :) :)

Really enjoyed this Fall weather, clear blue sky, cool and calm.  The only negative part was the smoky air from some weed/field burning nearby.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN everyone!!!  Looks like a perfect night for trick-a-treating! :) :) :)

Thinking about registering for the Mesquite Marathon!

Hi my crazy running girlfriend!!!! Glad to see you are doing great, as always! Congrats on your 50 miler!!! Are you going to do another one? Yes, you should sign up for Mesquite so you can say hi to me as you wizz by! Have a Happy Halloween! ( oh, I am doing the half)

From JulieC on Mon, Oct 31, 2011 at 16:33:46 from 71.35.249.217

however can you run so many my friend? I would wait to make sure Mesquite is NOT windy before signing up. Wait until the last minute is my advice. Last year was insane for Melanie. Happy Day!!

From JulieC on Mon, Oct 31, 2011 at 16:34:48 from 71.35.249.217

however did I miss you at TOU?

From Smooth on Mon, Oct 31, 2011 at 16:40:16 from 174.27.193.64

Leslie ~ Hi there girlfriend! I was thinking about you when I was running the PE 50. Yes, I wanna do another one! Yay! You're gonna run the Mesquite Half? Where are you staying?

Julie ~ I must've missed you at TOU. I remember it was crazy windy last year. I signed up for the Valley of Fire on the same day but got the flu and bailed. It was the only DNS I've ever had and was glad I missed the windy weather. OK! So they don't raise the entry fee and I can sign up last min. cool! I'm not *racing* it, just to run it as it is the closest marathon available this time of year. :)

From Smooth on Mon, Oct 31, 2011 at 16:51:44 from 174.27.193.64

OH Julie ~ I haven't been on the blog much after SGM and didn't realize you're injured. I'm so sorry! It happens to the best of us. Hang in there and let that PF heal up. You will be back in your former running self in no time!

From Tom Slick on Mon, Oct 31, 2011 at 17:15:46 from 69.171.160.129

Wow Ms. Smooth, it looks like your recovery from your 50 miler is coming along just fine...and your already talking about doing another marathon! You Da Woman!

From Nancy on Mon, Oct 31, 2011 at 20:40:50 from 76.23.21.118

It is hard for me to imagine you running a 50 miler and then the next week running like you haven't even run a hard race. It always took me at least a week or two just to get over running a marathon. You are really a wonder woman.

From allie on Tue, Nov 01, 2011 at 11:51:40 from 161.38.218.168

hi smooth -- i hope you had a good halloween! it was certainly one of the finest-weathered ones we've had in the last several years.

another marathon?!?! go for it!

From flatlander on Tue, Nov 01, 2011 at 16:45:50 from 198.207.244.102

Glad to hear about your good weather and good trails. Nice run.

I second Slick ... You Da Woman!!! :)

From Toby on Tue, Nov 01, 2011 at 21:05:23 from 199.101.224.254

Nicely done Smooth! I'm coveting the awesome weather! So so so wonderful!

From RAD on Wed, Nov 02, 2011 at 14:16:25 from 98.202.23.178

Glad you got some good miles in on the last nice day of the year! Hope you are still recovering well and enjoying your new suite! What are your plans for Saturday? If you haven't already signed up for another marathon that day :)

From Smooth on Wed, Nov 02, 2011 at 22:40:24 from 75.162.83.50

Slickster ~ Thanks! There was really no recovery needed. I think the 4/1 pace plan really works! :)

Looks like you're ready to gear up for marathon#10.

Nancy ~ It might sound strange; but the 50 miler was easier than a marathon. I just took it easy and had a ball.

allie ~ I was disappointed that not many trick-or-treaters out this year. With the good weather, you'd think there'd be more kids out and about with their family. I used to have SO MUCH fun dressing up and taking my kids out and cooking a big ole' dinner in a pumpkin. Now it's just another quiet night at home with the hubs.

Flat, Toby ~ we got to take advantage of the nice weather while we still have it.

SSF ~ Right back at ya!

Rachel ~ There is essentially no recovery necessary. The bruises are fading and the scrapes are starting to fall off. Am really enjoying the leisurely runs.

Every night when I go to bed, I feel like I'm sleeping in a hotel suite. :) I must've spent 30 min. in the shower every morning. It's heaven! :)

I was really hoping to run the Snow Canyon Half or the Just Cuz. BUT it is Stake Conference weekend and hubby wants me to stay close to home. SO! NO race for me. Do you have any plans for Sat.? Wanna run the Lehi JRP?

From RAD on Wed, Nov 02, 2011 at 22:49:56 from 98.202.23.178

I'd love to do a little Lehi JRP with you!! Got lots to chat about :) as always. I want to know the gory details of the PE50 too!!

From Smooth on Wed, Nov 02, 2011 at 22:55:41 from 75.162.83.50

RAD ~ We have lots to catch up on. Let me know what time works for you.

From RAD on Wed, Nov 02, 2011 at 23:07:24 from 98.202.23.178

I'm good anytime, just let me know what works for you. I have no plans (as of yet, which story I can explain on Saturday) that day, so whenever. Sunday is daylight savings, so I'll get good sleep that night!!!

From Smooth on Wed, Nov 02, 2011 at 23:13:47 from 75.162.83.50

OK! I'll keep you posted. Will keep an eye out for the weather too! Can't wait to see you! :)

From RAD on Wed, Nov 02, 2011 at 23:47:37 from 98.202.23.178

perfect! Looks like the weather is going to be snowy, but I've gotta learn to love it sometime.
