Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Went to bed very late since getting home from my nieces' duo piano recital at BYU late.  That was the most outstanding piano performance I've ever been to.  They received standing ovations from the audience who almost filled the entire Madsen Recital Hall to capacity.  They are graduating with a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance.  I am so proud of these two sisters, Sarah and Seidi...I just have to brag.

Slept in till 6:30 am.  Was so tired that I didn't prepare well for the long run this morning.   Found a pair of old socks (mistake #1 ) and the dirtiest of the 3 pair rotating shoes (mistake #2).   Wore sleeveless top, cap and sunglasses, took fuel belt with water, couple of energy bars and mixed a bottle of gatorade (32 oz).  Ate breakfast of banana, Kashi cereal w/ milk and drank EmergenC plus water.

Sky was overcast when I got to the JRP.  There was a small group of scouts doing a troop version of Sprint Triathlon.  The river is a swelling green.  They had names written on their arms.  Temp was in the low 60's, breezy.  I got warmed up pretty quick so I took off my cap.  I felt lots of energy in my legs so I ran the uphill strong.  At the top (mile 5), I saw a family of 3 cyclists getting ready for the bike ride.  I would pass them every mile or so when they stopped to make adjustment.

It started to rain at mile 6, so I put my cap back on.  At around mile 9, I could feel a hot spot on my left foot.   My shoes and socks were totally wet.  I did not have any dry socks to change into.  By mile 10, the sun has come out, I put on my sunglasses and hope for the best.  By mile 13, the ball of my left foot by the big toe was burning.  I knew a blister has formed.  With 3 more miles to go, I just pushed hard to end the agony.

Drank water at mile 4, 7, 13, 15.  Drank 22 oz gatorade and ate one small energy bar at mile 10.25.  16.25 miles in 2:33:15.  Splits:  10:02, 9:14, 9:08, 10:03, 9:55, 8:57, 9:28, 9:39, 9:30, 9:56, 9:41, 9:21, 9:15, 9:11, 8:53, 8:46, 8:26.  AP: 9:25.

Took an ice bath while drinking a can of chocolate royale Slimfast.  Bandaged up the nasty blister about the size of a quarter.  My house is a disaster.  I need to do some major cleaning since I'm having company this weekend.  Sarah is getting married tomorrow.  It's gonna be so nice to see all the family visitng from all over.

Have a GREAT WEEKEND everyone!!!

Way to stick it out super-champ. That sounds like a tough run. I know the route you took and I really enjoy it. That big hill is a good one.

Enjoy the weekend. I hope the weather holds for you.

jun,

THANKS! The run was actually very enjoyable if not for the painful blister. I will learn to wear better shoes and socks on my next long run.

Me and some of the bloggers have run this route quite a few times on many Saturdays. We meet at the 1500 N access by the old bridge and run up North close to Redwood Rd (by Camp Williams), it's a 10 mile round trip. Then we'd head south for whatever miles we need. You should join us sometimes when you're not trail running.

Nice run Smooth. You really are tough. :) Sorry about your blister ... that stinks.

Please don't over do things this weekend ... I know you ... try and enjoy your guests instead of feeling like you need to cater to their every need.

I love you!!!

(and miss you tons)

Smooth,

Take care of those blisters. Way to get out this morning and being so dedicated. It was beautiful running weather, and the mountains were breathtaking this morning. Good luck with everything that you have going on this weekend.

Today did look great for a run! Sorry about the blisters. If you feel a hot spot coming on you can put chapstick on it an it will prevent a blister...this is why Kimmy will never use my chapstick!

Nice Run Smooth. You are one dedicated Woman!! Hope the blister heals fast and hope you enjoy your weekend festivities and your company. Sounds like fun. I also need to hire a maid :) At least to do my laundry, it's never-ending.

Way to get your long run in!!!

Julie,

THANKS! It was great running in the rain.

Bec,

Tons of family in town. Have to start cooking again. :)

Kathie,

You're too funny! I've used chapsticks on hot spot before. Just didn't have any with me.

Amber,

I hope it heals fast too. At least I don't have a race next week. :)

Dale,

Have to conquer 26.2 first. You, on the other hand, are SUPER on running ultra.

Leslie,

THANKS! My life is like feast and famine. When the family comes home, it's FULL. I LOVE my life, wouldn't change it for anything...am very blessed. :)

Sorry to hear about your blister, but a great run. I'm glad you had lots of company and enjoyed it. Did you notice you did a 'marathon' of easy miles this week?
