Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Wendy and I took our sweet time to go out thinking it would be warmer...brrr.  Temp was in the 20's.  Couldn't feel my feet, toes and fingers for the first 2 miles; then came the pain of thawing as we ran up the hills.  Lotsa hills today and lotsa talking too.  I think I need to move to San Diego!

****

My eating has gotten out of control.  For hubby's birthday today, we went out to dinner at Texas Road House.  Had a deep fried baby blossom appetitizer, 5 dinner rolls w/ cinnamon honey butter, 8 oz. sirloin steak, sweet potato w/ the same sinful butter, chef salad, vanilla ice-cream w/ fudge topping.  SO GOOD but SO BAD!!!  I ate more than my hubby and our two sons...no shame nor self-control...aaaggghhh!!!

Nice job, Smoothie. I'm with you on San Diego. The longer I live here the more I hate cold, wintry weather.

From MrsFIT on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 14:06:32 from 205.127.241.18

Gotta love cold weather running - NOT!

From leslie peterson on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 14:23:18 from 76.23.61.78

San Diego sounds good to me! Get ready for more winter runs!

From jun on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 14:46:11 from 66.239.250.209

We are full-on into the next six month of weather. Bring it on.

From Rhett on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 14:50:55 from 216.67.216.176

Ouch, cold hurts!

From RAD on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 14:58:27 from 76.27.12.70

brrr! I opted for the TM! Luckily Kelli was there for some good talking, but no hills :( -I know I shouldn't be sad!

Great job getting the miles in, I hope you're defrosting well! I'd move to San Diego with you anytime!!

From Kelli on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 15:15:14 from 71.219.97.167

I went out to get the paper this morning and it was FREEZING!!! So, I opted for the dreaded treadmill. Way to be tougher than me and go out there!!!

Did you see that Boston filled up last Friday???? CRAZY!! I am so glad I got on the ball for that one, that would have been TRAGIC!

From Smooth on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 15:23:50 from 174.23.240.142

Yep, I saw that! Last year (2009) it filled up in Jan. which was the soonest until now. Makes me wonder if it will fill up even sooner for 2011. I think those CIM BQ hopefuls are crushed! So glad we got our confirmations from the mail. My brother-in-law missed it...he was going to run London which he didn't get in. I think it may have been by lottery. So it's a bummer that he missed Boston.

From Bec on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 15:34:43 from 67.177.35.60

Filled up already? Guess I'm not going this year. I am planning to do the National Marathon if my sister moves back to DC by then. You should consider doing that one too. It is in March (boo), but it is on a Saturday!

Nice run today Smooth. BRRR, the weather is too cold.

From Kelli on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 15:48:40 from 71.219.97.167

Many Utahs were doing Mesquite, which is now certified, and I bet they are really bummed!!!

From Smooth on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 16:08:49 from 174.23.240.142

My newfound friend at Hoover Dam, Lora, BQ'ed a week later on Nov 8 at the Santa Clarita Marathon. I urged her to sign up. She didn't; now she's saving up for 2011. I think those going for BQ at Mesquite should just shoot for 2011. It goes to show that the economy isn't stopping any runners consider that Boston raised its entry fee this year and filled up in barely 2 months.

From Teena on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 16:11:07 from 155.99.210.79

Ry is convinced that we are moving to San Diego once I finish PT school. Earlier if I don't get in!!! :)

Love you SSF!!!

From Rhett on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 17:07:59 from 74.42.168.210

With how quickly Boston if filling up, I wonder if they will consider changing the qualifying standards?

From Cal on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 17:12:02 from 66.133.117.3

Nice running as always Smooth. Takes some toughness to be out in those low temps.

From Smooth on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 17:17:07 from 174.23.240.142

Hope not. Consider the average age of marathoners are inching up. There will be more babyboomers qualifying. I think BAA set aside too many charity slots; that's one theory for closing the registration so soon. BAA did send out notice to urge those qualified to register ASAP last week. They used to show number of entrants on the entry search link. But this year they didn't and so that lead me to think that they might have more charity slots than previous years.

From Rhett on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 17:48:45 from 74.42.168.210

I too was wondering why they didn't show the number of registered entrants on the entry search link. I'm just glad I signed up when I did. Too bad Gary won't be joining us this year. I liked him.

From JulieC on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 18:08:47 from 67.40.106.109

Maybe they are checking the list twice and finding out who is naughty or nice before they open it up again on Christmas Day :D> got to find a marathon....I guess SLC is two days before but even that price went up and I think there are no cash awards this year....so don't know who they are trying to bring to that race.

From JulieC on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 18:10:27 from 67.40.106.109

BTW glad we were soul mates in the ARTIC air this am. You can't move to San Diego, you would miss the altitude training and not to mention the every day weather changes to challenge you!!

From allie on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 20:09:07 from 67.177.43.41

great job braving the cold. OUCH it was COLD! you are tough. glad you got into boston. it sure filled up quickly. that's a good reminder about how fast ogden filled up this year. all of a sudden it was closed. marathoning sure is popular these days!

From Nancy on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 21:36:43 from 76.27.69.172

I don't mind running in the cold but I don't like slippery wet roads. Keep up the good work.

From AmberG on Mon, Nov 16, 2009 at 23:42:30 from 64.255.89.47

San Diego? I heard St.George is nice and warm!!! :) I'd love to have you here!!!

From DonGardinero on Tue, Nov 17, 2009 at 00:11:26 from 75.162.174.156

I've been thinking a lot lately how I wish my family and I could move to St. George. It was especially on my mind today.
