Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Now the point of the Yasso is that your 800 time will be the hours and min of your marathon right? What's the RI stand for? Recovery IceCream?

I am sorry about your back :(

From Bec on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 15:01:05 from 67.177.35.60

Nice speed work day. 10.5 miles with AP 8:21? Great speed. Where do you do these speed work sessions? High school or the Jr. High? I was there today (LHS) and there was no sign of Smooth. I hope you went earlier than me because it was way too hot.

From RivertonPaul on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 15:02:48 from 67.42.27.114

Wow, you are hitting it hard. Way to go.

From Smooth on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 15:04:52 from 71.36.85.214

Marion,

Yep, you got the Yasso concept down. I'm not shooting for 3:47. It nearly killed me. I think RI stands for recovery interval. Recovery ice-cream is SO SO SO MUCH BETTER! :-D I was supposed to take one and a half minute (1:30) for recovery; but it was easier for me to keep track of the distance than time. It always takes me longer to recover. I think I must have bad form when I do these speed work; that's why my back hurts. I need to run them a little more controlled.

From Smooth on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 15:09:05 from 71.36.85.214

Bec,

I didn't make it to the LHS track today. Steven has the car. I thought about running down there for warm up. But the running back up was NO FUN!

Wow, you were there this morning? Heading over to your blog now.

Paul,

THANKS! IT WAS VERY VERY HARD! Now I know why I do NOT like 5Ks. Gasping for air is ugly.

From Shimelle on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 15:12:57 from 75.162.225.27

Wow Smooth! Nice pace today! If you are hitting your Yasso's at that pace than maybe you will start running your marathons at that pace. You are totally awesome!

From marion on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 15:23:39 from 71.213.106.139

Does it wreak the Yasso if the recovery is too long?

From Smooth on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 15:28:42 from 71.36.85.214

Marion,

Technically you can jog 1/2 the distance for recovery. When I was training for Boston, I was hitting my Yasso's at 3:53 and the recovery was around 1:40's. I ended up with a 4:02 in Boston. So who knows.

From Teena on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 15:32:35 from 67.177.20.13

Smooth,

Regardless of what you say you are as diehard as they come! Ry and I were talking about you last night ... you seriously are one of my very best friends in the whole world. I sure do love you!

How did the shutters turn out?

I need to do yoga as well.

Hope you are having a fantastic Tuesday.

From marion on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 15:38:12 from 71.213.106.139

I mean, if the recovery 400 takes more time than the schedule allows? Or can you recover at any pace you like, like crawling? Or a day or so in between? ;D

Now- these Yasso's of yours are NO where near 3:53, are you shooting for a speedier St George??

From Smooth on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 15:44:13 from 71.36.85.214

Hey Teena,

Did you get the pic I emailed you? Larry and I kept saying how very photogenic you are! Yes, YOU ARE SO PRETTY with such beautiful eyes and smile! And your pink/white outfit is so so so so so cute!

They didn't replace the defective (gouched and scratched) rails. They only sanded them down; so the scratches are still there. They missed painting over the black saw mark on the ends of some of the slatts. Larry was disappointed when he got home. I can live with it. I don't want them to come back. They were here till 3pm yesterday...about drove me to the looney bin. Guess what? Larry wants to put a deck in the back now!!! AAAGGGHHH!!! Can't I please move to the Grand America Hotel? Great workout. Your speed has improved so much this year.

From Smooth on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 15:49:07 from 71.36.85.214

Marion,

I think it's best to try to recover in under half the time it takes to run the 800. I'm no expert on Yasso's. I should find out.

Since my Yasso last time didn't give me the result I wanted at Boston. I'm running them a little harder hoping to hit sub-4 at SGM. But I will be happy with anything under 4:15 which is my BQ time for 2011 when I will be 55 yr young.

From Teena on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 15:51:10 from 67.177.20.13

Smoothi,

I got the pic but think you are much more photogenic than I am!!

I am so sorry to hear about your shutter disappointments. That just plain stinks.

A new deck??? I want a new deck!!! :)

When are we going to lunch?

From Smooth on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 16:01:44 from 71.36.85.214

Teena,

I wish I could cop me out of that pic. You, Michelle and Julie are too gorgeous!

You can build a new deck and I will come over for BBQ. Larry is CRAZY. I told him we would never use the deck. I can't handle any more guy workers at my house.

When can you go for lunch? I'm good tomorrow. LLL LLL LLL LLL LLL

DANG Smooth! Those are some great 800s. After seeing you churn out this workout with your back killing you, I really need to just suck it up and quit whinning. Great job!

From Smooth on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 17:11:54 from 71.36.85.214

Jeff,

This workout WAS VERY VERY HARD! It nearly killed me...now I have a back ache.

Kristi,

No kidding! YAY for you getting her done! Next week's speed looks very complicated. I don't know whatado.

I'm going to do yoga now and see if I can get rid of that backache.

From Kathie on Tue, Jul 28, 2009 at 19:15:02 from 207.155.176.10

Nice job Smooth, you are it! The total package lady! Speedy, beautiful, wonderfully nice and accommodating to everyone, and always a smile!! DANG! If I could just have 1/2 of you in me I would love it!!! Take care and get that back better soon.

From Smooth on Wed, Jul 29, 2009 at 17:08:57 from 71.36.81.143

Kathie,

THANKS! I kept telling myself, embrace the pain, embrace the pain, you won't die, you won't die. Man, so glad that workout was DONE!!!
