Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Today is EZ day.  Temp. was cccca-old.  I put on my trusty CW-X insulator tights and UA sub-zero top, gloves, sunglasses and headed out to a beautiful blue sky, calm, quiet winter morning run.  LOVE IT.  If I had the right mask, I would look like Spiderman (er woman).  With that, even tho' it's EZ day, I'd better find some stunt work to do...hmm.

After 0.5 mi warm up, I "attacked" the hills for 2 miles, then coast the rest home.  Didn't even look at the watch once.

Good run, and even better description of the weather!! If we had not met at my house today, I woulda stayed in bed!!!

Do you run by yourself every day?? We need to get you your own BBK. But we would have to call them the LBK's.

From Smooth on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 15:55:44

Kelli -- I run by myself 90% of the time. There are some ladies in my neighborhood (who had started running) that would call me to run with them. When I run with them I ended up being the "drill sargent". I'm getting Wendy to run faster so we can run together. I wish there was a group training for Boston or sub-4 hr marathon that I can run with. Yeah we'll call it LBK's.

Well, you could get up at 4 and meet us!

From Smooth on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 16:22:58

Get up at 4??? Is that what you do??? WOW, you're a supermom. I vividly remember getting up at 4...to nurse a baby. Thankgoodness those days are over. I LOVE my bed.

From Kelli on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 16:36:08

Heavens no!!! I DO NOT get up at 4, but you would have to to meet us! I get up at 5, and only two days a week.

From Smooth on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 16:51:03

Getting up at 5, twice a week is ok. It doesn't hurt to have your own "drill sargent" (aka Scott) to beat you out of bed.

He does, too!

From Kathie on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:20:34

When I run out side I am usually alone to. If Kimmy were closer I think we would run together almost everyday. I remember my first 20 that I ran alone it was kind of cool to spend that much "quality time" with myself!

From huans32 on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 17:40:06

I also run alot of my runs alone but try to talk to more people on recovery days. Helps keep it recovery and slower. I wish I was closer to run with Smooth too. Your the best running partner. I could just see you looking like spiderwoman too. That is too funny. Great job Smooth.

From Smooth on Thu, Nov 06, 2008 at 18:15:13

Kathie -- I wish you and Kimmy lived closer too, to ME, that is. Hey I live in the middle b/w you two. You can come to Lehi, run with me, then visit your sister in Highland.

Mark -- You're DA GREAT running partner. I love to run with you anytime on your recovery days. You don't EVER have to worry about running too fast and I'll even let you do all the talking. :)

From Teena on Fri, Nov 07, 2008 at 00:08:53

Smoothi,

What in the world are you doing "attacking the hills" on your ez day??? You are too stinkin' funny!

I actually kind of like running by myself sometimes. But would much rather be with friends on long runs!!

Not quite sure if President Smooth would be okay with a "Lehi Butt Kickers" group ... you might have to settle for "Lehi Bum-Bum Kickers."

Love you!!
