Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Thought about my options for today's MLR:  a) drive to Park City, b) wear a surgical mask, or c) go to the dungeon with something good to watch.

Option (a) would make me a culprit in adding to the pollution.  Option (b) might alarm my neighbors.  So I chose option (c) with the company of "Life is Beautiful" (I LOVE that movie!!!) and KBYU music performances (I miss my violists sons!!!).

great run, smooth. glad you had some entertainment to pass the time indoors. the air out there is more than yuck. :@

From Emily on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 18:24:11 from 71.219.130.225

Great run! I totally agree about staying inside on the TM. The air quality has been awful lately! Way to stay on the TM that long too!

From DonGardinero on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 19:39:53 from 152.216.7.5

Look at you!!! 113.5 miles and we're only 12 days into the month. Amazing!!!

From Huans32 on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 20:26:23 from 138.64.8.51

Awesome run smooth. Great miles even if they were indoors.:)

From Kathie on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 21:51:33 from 63.248.105.188

Nice run on the treadmill even...I love the miles you are getting in!

From RivertonPaul on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 22:04:40 from 97.160.74.238

Smooth you are doing so awesome

From leslie peterson on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 23:44:53 from 174.52.158.81

oh my goodness, I can not in my wildest dreams imagine ever running that fast, and on a TM for that long. WONDER WOMAN!!!!!

I am going to the Oval tomorrow to try and hammer out 11 miles, but it will take all morning!

From Smooth on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 23:45:52 from 174.23.217.47

allie ~ hoping the air clears up soon! Need desperately to run Suncrest which is a-wind-a-sucking...not good on red air days.

Emily ~ I do not recommend running long on the TM. Boring and dangerous!

Dale ~ Thanks! I hadn't noticed the total mileage till you point it out! :)

Mark ~ Thanks! Can't wait to see you at Painter's!

Kathie ~ Pfitz is killing me!

Paul ~ THANKS! Was thinking about you and your TM running! How in the world did you run over 2,000 miles on that thing last year?!!!! If I didn't have the movie, I wouldn't have finished my run on the milly!

From Smooth on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 23:47:28 from 174.23.217.47

Leslie ~ It's the movie! Be careful running in circle/ovals!!! Change directions every so many laps so your knee won't hate you! Have fun tomorrow!

From Bec on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 00:03:39 from 76.23.55.210

WOWIE!! Look at the TM workout from Smooth. Nice effort. It's nice to know that you stayed in today and did your lungs some good. Great miles girl!

From Teena Marie on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 00:11:19 from 174.52.45.85

It is Tuesday, SSF, and you are already at 24 miles!!!

You are the hardest core of the hardcore!!! Deep down you know it is true!!! :)

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 00:18:42 from 174.23.217.47

SSF!!! NOT hardcore! Just stubborn!!! Whatever would I do if there was a power outage?!!! Hey, aren't you supposed to be sleeping? How's the studying?

From Teena Marie on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 00:23:13 from 174.52.45.85

Yes, I need to start getting ready for bed. The studying is NOT coming along very well! There is already a ton to learn in Human Anatomy -- but I am okay with that because the professor and text are top notch. Organic chemistry, on the other hand, is the EXACT OPPOSITE. I don't mean to complain but the professor is, well let's say, he's not what I had hoped, AND he wrote the text. Anyway, I might have to drop my physics class in order to stay sane with these classes and their corresponding labs plus work, etc. Advice?

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 00:24:31 from 174.23.217.47

Do you need Physics for PT school?

From Teena Marie on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 00:31:04 from 174.52.45.85

Yep!!! Lots of it.

I am going to take the main physics series that I need either as an accelerated program during the summer, or next fall and spring right before PT school. This physics course is "Physics of the Human Body." Very cool -- but I'm wondering if I should take it during a less hectic semester.

I just don't know.

From leslie peterson on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 00:34:44 from 174.52.158.81

Teena, are you up at the U? My son teaches at the Anatomy lab

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 00:35:22 from 174.23.217.47

I'd say drop O.Chem. Is there another O.Chem by a different professor that you can take another semester?

From Teena Marie on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 00:39:00 from 174.52.45.85

I don't know. I will look into it tomorrow. I don't think so though. I remember last semester my lab TA telling me how poorly this class is taught.

Going to get ready for bed. I am beat!!

Love you!

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 00:40:30 from 174.23.217.47

G'night! Hope it all works out! LOVE YOU!!! Sleep tight!

From vinh on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 06:51:38 from 75.77.22.187

Another impressive run Smooth! Is the air really that bad? What is up with that? I haven't been there in a couple years.

From fly on the Wall on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 09:08:27 from 168.179.215.137

Way to get it done Smooth! :)

Do you really think a surgical mask would do any good? Aren't they designed to just keep the spittle from flying?

From Rhett on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 12:43:58 from 74.41.249.102

Look at that nice progression run, and I bet you still felt strong at the end like you could even go faster. Very nice discipline for not doing that. Your training lately is amazing! Keep it up, stay injury free, and you are going to reach new heights this year.

From Maurine/Miles on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 15:16:35 from 63.255.172.2

Wow - impressive treadmill run. You are awesome, Smooth!

From AmberG on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 15:20:53 from 209.33.225.111

Amazing, Amazing, Amazing! That's all I have to say.

(I started writing more, but then I re-read what I just wrote and so I had to stop so I could stay honest :) )

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 13, 2010 at 23:25:53 from 174.23.217.47

vinh ~ Utah has 5 cities toping the worst air quality (red alert) in the Nation the last couple of days. That inversion is like a lid trapping bad pollution and cold air in the valley. It's warmer and clearer in the mountains though so it doesn't hurt the ski industry in Utah.

Mark ~ I have not done any science fair project to see if surgical masks filter anything other than the spittle. All I know is they make us wear them at Primary Children Hospital and when I was a nurse working with cancer patients or infectious patients. So, you're right, probably not much help in filtering the air. I think we need those heavy duty HASMAT gas masks! :)

Maurine ~ THANKS!

Amber ~ Oh c'mon, go ahead flatter me! jk THANKS! YOU're the amazing one!

Susanna-good of you to think of the environment. I love Life is Beautiful. I remember watching it on my own in the first run theatre, then dragging my husband three days later. What does MRL mean?

From Smooth on Thu, Jan 14, 2010 at 17:01:46 from 174.23.217.47

Michelle ~ That was a typo. It's MLR = Medium Long Run, any run of 11 - 15 miles.

Glad you're a fan of Life is Beautiful too.

From MichelleL on Thu, Jan 14, 2010 at 17:58:10 from 207.224.200.8

MRL are my initials, that's why it caught my eye.
