Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Great run today and super workout!! You are so awesome. I love your new picture!! Have a fun date night, it is ours, too!!! Yeah!

Off to welcome Bec!

From Rachel on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 15:51:00

Smooth- I LOVE your new pic! You look awesome! Great workout today, I did resistance as well. Always good for me to get something other than a run in to 'shake things up' in my body. Awesome pace on your speed work, I hope someday to be able to keep up with you or even RUN one marathon, that would be great! You're definately an inspiration.

From tarzan on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 15:55:24

Great workout Smooth! Keep up the good work.

From leslie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 16:08:08

Smooth, another great workout under your belt. You are getting stronger every day!!

Have fun on your date night! Our date night is being crashed by a 15 year old grandson, oh, well, it's a different kind of fun.

From Kathie on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 16:09:56

Smooth I love your work out. I am assuming that you did it outside? Am I wrong? I can never do speed work outside. I need the treadmill to keep me honest.

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 16:36:41

Kelli,

Can you believe it's been a week since we had our fun party at SG? Hubby said he wished we were going down this afternoon; me too. Have a fun date night with Scott.

Rachel,

You are so cute! I know that "someday" is here already. You better sign up for a marathon. You are doing it with all your half's. You're a much better and faster runner than me. That's the honest truth.

Tarzan,

You too!

Leslie,

You're so nice to let your grandson's parents have a date night. Have fun spoiling him.

Kathie,

Nope, it wasn't outside. The air was still yucky. I can't wait until I can do speed work outside. I live on a perfectly square 2 miles block so it's nice to run Yasso 800's on it. You're right about the treadmill keeping the pace honest. It is nice that way, with a push of a button the paces change automatically.

From Rachel on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 17:02:18

are you kidding me? I've never run more than 14 miles in one stop. I could run that far and walk/run the rest, but I think I'd die if I did a full. I'm sure that more than anything its a mental block, I just can't wrap my head around running that much! If I keep running with all of you I may get over that soon.

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 19:38:59

Rachel,

You will not die!!! You can run the distance!!! Absolutely, 90% of running is mental, the other 50% is physical. Keep on running and enjoy this crazy sport.

From tarzan on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 20:33:42

Smooth - now you are telling me we have to give 140%! Gulp! I quit. :)

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 22:49:45

No Tarzan, 140% is for mere mortals. For you, DA ULTRA-WOMAN, it's at least 150%. :D I don't think "quit" is in your vocabulary. You're a FINISHER and a DIEHARD at that!!! :)

From Cal on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 22:51:27

Nice new pic Smooth! Why do you always look so good at your races?

From Smooth on Fri, Jan 23, 2009 at 23:34:23

Cal,

Thanks, you're too nice! Look good at races? Don't know about that. May be 'cause I never get to the "puke pace zone"???

From tarzan on Sat, Jan 24, 2009 at 17:05:38

Wow - I got two nicknames in one day! Must be a great week for me.

Smooth - what are Around the world core workout and Around the clock leg lifts?

From Smooth on Sat, Jan 24, 2009 at 23:44:13

Tarzan,

Around the world core is found here:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=486

Teena, Marion and Rachel do them too. I like it.

Around the clock lunges or leg lifts: I do lunges holding dumb bells while stepping out with foot landing on the positions of a clock (right foot at 12, 1, 2, 3 ,4 ,5 6 o'clcok, then left foot at 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 o'clcock). With the leg lifts, I hold onto the wall or bar of the treadmill for balance then lift each leg from hip with foot at the position of the clock. I hope this helps.
