Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Schedule calls for 15 miles @ 9:19/mile.  My friend, Mary needs to run her 1st 20 miler with 3 weeks out from TOU.   So we decided to do this on the Provo River Trail going up Provo canyon and back down.   Thanks to Luz's headsup info on the distance between drinking fountains; I decided to run this w/o a fuel belt/gatorade.  However I forgot to carry the Enlyten strips that I was going to try.  Will try that on the next 20 miler.

Wendy, Mary and I got to Will's Pit Stop (on University Ave.) where Stephanie was already waiting at 6am.   Made a "pit stop" just as LuzyLew and her friend, Catherine arrived.  Temp was perfect, slightly cool.  It was a bit windy at the mouth of the canyon.

I ran with Luz and Cath at a comfortable conversation pace.  Cath is a brilliant girl gearing to BQ at SGM.   There were lots of runners and bikers on the trail.  Saw Karin R. (Josse's mom), neat!  About mile 7+ I was so happy to run into Kimmy and Kathie.  They were on their way down, well over half way of their 20 miler.  They looked great, running strong and having a good time together.

I took a gel at Vivian's Park (mile 8).  We then headed up the road to South Fork for another mile to make a round trip of 18.  Mary, Wendy and Stephanie needed to do 2 more to make 20.  Soon after the turn around, Luz was having stomach cramps.  I felt bad leaving her.  Cath assured me that Luz would rather have us go ahead than run slower.  I took advantage of the decline and cruised home talking the whole way with Cath.  Ran into Kimmy and Kathie again around mile 16+.  They looked awesome having finished their 20.

Finished the run feeling pretty good.  Immediately drank chocolate milk and gatorade, ate oranges and banana that I brought.  Drank water at all the water fountains about mile 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 (2nd gel) 14 and 16.   The temp was perfect with overcast sky; no worries about dehydration or cramps.  Felt like I could have run for couple more miles holding the pace.

18 miles in 2:44:42.  Splits:  9:50, 9:38, 9:16, 9:42 (going up Provo Canyon), 9:46, 10:09, 9:35, 9:45, 10:57 (going up South Fork),  9:06, 8:49, 8:18, 8:30, 8:11, 8:25, 8:15, 8:08, 8:12.  AP: 9:09

Going to check on everyone's run at TOU 1/2 now!  :)

You're really got a great group of running friends. You're really lucky.

Great run, by the way.

Thanks Carolyn. I used to run solo until this year, after joining FRB, I discovered how wonderful it is to have someone to run with.

Leslie ~ Thanks for the WooHoos! I only ran 18. My theory is "always save some in the tank for the next workout." Will see how next workout goes.

Did you mean Sept 11th? I am planning to run 20 on Sept 12, not sure if I could make it at 11:00am.

Great run, Smooth. You are an awesome (and very popular) runner. Nice of you to keep Catherine going.

Nice job smooth...it was so fun seeing you. One of your speedy bugs jumped off of you and on Kathie when you hugged her, because after we left you she really picked up the pace. :)

From Kathie on Sat, Aug 29, 2009 at 20:20:06 from 207.155.176.10

I am not sure if you would call that speedy Kim...I just wanted to get it over with!

From Kathie on Sat, Aug 29, 2009 at 20:21:14 from 207.155.176.10

Oh I almost forgot - It was a really great surprise seeing you today! You look like you were having a blast as usual!

From Smooth on Sat, Aug 29, 2009 at 23:20:37 from 71.36.68.70

Maurine ~ THANKS! It was great meeting new people. Cath is a young mother with a 5 and 1 year old. She is determined to go to Boston; needs 3:40 but shooting for 3:30. I think she can do it.

We need to get you BQ. I know you have it in you!

Kimmy & Kathie ~ I just love you girls. You are so so so so fun and so AWESOME! Wish I had known you were running there; would have loved to meet up and run together. It would be a stretch for me to keep up with you girls though. Can't wait to see you, your mom and McKenna next Sat.

Very nice run Smooth. One week after a PR at PC, and you are completely back into your zone. You are a little Micro Machine! (I don't know what a Micro Machine is, just felt like saying it).

I saw Wendy yesterday at the running store and we were talking about good ol' running. She is a sweet lady.

I love your new picture, so dang cute and sassy!

NICE RUN!!!! After we did the RHPC half up the canyon and down, I decided I wasn't to come do a long run there. Sorry I missed this one, but we must do it another time.

From RAD on Sun, Aug 30, 2009 at 16:27:41 from 76.27.12.70

What a great run! Glad you had a wonderful time on a beautiful trail with great friends! Of course that's par for the course with sweet Smoothie!! :)
