Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Push up test per Kathie's 100-push up challenge, I did the good forms (not girly ones)

Around the world core 30 reps (had to do the girly pushups b/c of the test above)

Calf raises 3 x 30 reps

Wall sit 3 x 30 sec

Dips 30 reps

AM/PM yoga

Breakfast:  yogurt, Kashi Omega 3 cereal, milk

Lunch:  1 boiled egg, 1 sweet potato, 1 Oliver Garden salad, water

If all goes well, this week is mega mileage week of 55.  Hope I can pull it off.  I hope the "accidental extra" miles last week didn't jeopardize it.  But I'm not gonna stress over it if I don't.

I need to broaden my horizon on the supplemental workout.  I don't want to join any gym. Those exercise machines intimidate me.  Anyone has suggestions on pilate or yoga DVD or core workouts?

Hey honey! yogatoday.com is AWESOME and free :) 3 instructors and a new class every day. Your workouts are AWESOME!!

From leslie on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 18:35:03

I think you can do all you need without a gym! I think that must be very liberating to know you can do it on your own. You are doing great! 55 miles is AWESOME!!! You are peaking girl!! One strong little lady!!!

From Rachel on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 18:50:33

Wow Smooth you do it all! I love your eating and wish I could get a few days like yours in. I'm trying, but my sugar drive usually overtakes. If I can put it off till 8 and stop eating I'm usually okay. For some cross training I would suggest DDR (dance, dance revolution), it is so fun and keeps your heart rate up and is a great time for anyone watching. Come on over to my house in Herriman anytime and play!!

PS - I signed up for the Ogden full, so I need ANY and ALL advice I can get. I love your 55 mile/week program, because 80 scares me.

Marion,

Thanks for the link. Very cool. Free is my favorite word.

Leslie,

I'm in the middle of my 24 week training schedule. I still have a ways to go before "peaking".

Rachel,

I still have sugar drive. I have to remind myself I'm not counting calories; just making my calories count. O I've heard good things about DDR. All my nieces and nephew rave about them. Thanks for the invite. :) O, and thanks for the reminder about signing up for Ogden.

You are going to do great at Ogden. I am so excited for you. 80 miles??? Yah, that's scary and doesn't sound fun at all. Running has got to be fun. And you're very good at keeping it FUN!!!

Smooth,

I really like Rodney Yee's new "Burn" yoga dvd. It's an hour and really helps sculp the body. I have several of his dvds if you want to borrow any of them. I could bring some Saturday night if you would like.

From Smooth on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 11:13:48

One more thing, I used to really get into TaiBo (sp?). It was a ton of fun. You might want to look into those dvds. I know Target has them as well.

Ooops ... the above comment was from me.

Smooth, you are doing so well on all you core work, I wouldn't think you would need much more. Maybe try some bounding or other explosive jumping. I think you are doing great and wish I was on track for Boston like you are.

From Kelli on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 17:06:42

I was gonna say TAE BO!!! I love it!!!

You are doing awesome this week, great job!

From Smooth on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 18:19:17

Teena & Kelli,

Thanks, I'd love to take a look at your vast collection. What is Tae Bo? I can't wait to see you all on Sat. It's gonna be so fun

Rhett,

Explosive jumping? Is that jump rope? I remember you mentioned pyometric (sp) I should check into that.

THANKS everyone for your helpful input.
