Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Push up Wk 4 Day 3 Column 3:  29, 33, 29, 29, (40)  It was very hard, my arms are sore.

Dynamic Flexibility Exercises, a fancy term for warm up stretches.  It is supposed to allow the muscles to develop dynamic tension and flexibility specific to running.  The long-term benefits are seen in increased dynamic flexibility and a more economical stride.   This warm up routine was not hard to do at all and took only 5 or 6 min.  It has silly names like Tilt Walk, Zombies.  I will do these on fast workout days.

Progressive run of 6.2 miles in 50:15.  AP: 8:06  Felt good during the run.  Wonder where I should run for my long tomorrow.

great job, Smooth!!! How long is your run tomorrow? Are you doing it by yourself?

From Smooth on Fri, Feb 27, 2009 at 15:01:19 from 71.36.64.119

I'm doing a solo 17 miler. Some of the FRB are racing or running somewhere else. How about you?

From Bec on Fri, Feb 27, 2009 at 15:30:23 from 205.123.38.69

Smooth,

An easy week? You still load on those miles, good for you! Nice pace today. Take it easy on your 17 tomorrow. I want to know more about that book you are training from. Sounds like that dynamic flexibility stuff could really help.

From Smooth on Fri, Feb 27, 2009 at 15:53:27 from 71.36.64.119

Becca,

The Brain Training book by Matt Fitzgerald has some interesting theories. I like some of his ideas especially the ones on running forms and how to outsmart injuries. I am not following his training schedule though, just using some exercises. After finishing this book, I'm onto the next one called Run Less Run Faster. Brother Struther let me borrow it from him. I think I need to run less at my age.

Both books sound great. I would love to read about outsmarting injuries. I tend to have strange pains sometimes, I get really nervous that they might turn into something worse. Brain Training is a book that I will look into, thanks.

Bec, it's a great book and it's cheap on Amazon.

Nice run Smooth. How fast were you going at the end of your progression run?

From leslie on Fri, Feb 27, 2009 at 16:38:00 from 76.23.61.78

Run circles around us!!!

Nice run today girl! I am trying to get my butt out of the door to run, it is so nice out, but I have a hard time running if it is not done as soon as I wake up.

From RAD on Fri, Feb 27, 2009 at 17:46:08 from 67.166.99.8

wow, what a fast run! I'm assuming it was on a TM too. Good golly miss molly, you're kicking it! I know you'll blow away your BQ time at Boston. You'll have to share those Flexibility exercises, I'm always up for stuff to help run more efficently and injury free. Are they from the Brain Train book?

From Smooth on Fri, Feb 27, 2009 at 23:58:10 from 71.36.64.119

Bec,

Yep, that's where I got mine, at Amazon, about $10 total.

Rhett,

I was going at 5K race pace, 7:20ish but for only 0.7 mile. I think I hit puke pace.

Leslie,

You're gonna have so much fun running with Marion. I think I'll run to the AF Temple.

Rachel,

Yes, the flexibility exercises is really a 5 min. warm up routine. The Brain Training book will be good reading for you on your plane ride or while you're sunbathing on the cruise ship.

Looks like Smooth got her groove back..that didn't take long! :-)

I'll have to add those books to my ever-growing running library.

From Marion on Sat, Feb 28, 2009 at 17:34:23 from 71.213.107.31

Sounds like one cool warm up. I bet you look hot doing the Zombies ;)
