Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Nice tempo run Smooth and cooling down at MP? Maybe your real mp has gotten faster.

From Smooth on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 18:33:04 from 174.23.217.47

No Rhett, my mp hasn't gotten faster. I just wanted to get it over with. I know I know I know, should have run the cool down slower but I was getting bored.

From Rhett on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 18:34:11 from 216.67.211.75

Or maybe your just getting faster!

From Smooth on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 18:37:34 from 174.23.217.47

The tempo pace felt hard today. In Sept I was running my tempo at the low 8's and felt great. So, I don't think I was getting faster. I do notice that it's taken me longer to warm up; but once I got in the groove, I was able to sustain the tempo pace.

From Rhett on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 18:52:37 from 216.67.211.75

Your just putting a lot of miles on your legs right now so your legs are a bit tired. It will all pay off on race day though. Are you going to taper for Painter's and go for a PR?

From Smooth on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 18:57:18 from 174.23.217.47

No, I'm not tapering for Painter's. I'm training right on thru. That week happens to be a recovery week though; so it's all good.

I am worrying about getting slower with the increased mileage. Hope you're right that it's gonna pay off at Boston!

From RivertonPaul on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 18:58:58 from 67.42.27.114

Speedy, great progress.

From Andy on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 19:37:12 from 198.60.114.178

Great tempo run. The extra time it takes to warm up is due to the higher mileage. On Saturday you thought you would be too tired for the tempo run today. You recovered very well which is a good sign. Are you on week 13 of Pfitz's schedule?

From Kathie on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 19:58:57 from 63.248.105.188

Nice run I am interested to see how your training turns out. I have always been afraid of the big miles. It really seems to be working for you.

From Smooth on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 20:36:17 from 174.23.217.47

Andy ~ Yep, week 13 of Pfitz! Will see how this body holds out this week.

Kathie ~ Hope I'm not heading to self-destruction. My thinking is if I want to test the water of higher mileage, this is the year to do it. At 54 I'm at the bottle end of my AG; no sense busting my tail off to compete with the fast 50 yrs olds. I'm also toying with the idea to go ultra. Any word of wisdom will be greatly appreciated!

From AmberG on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 23:41:31 from 209.33.225.111

Ultras? do it!! You've got such great endurance Smooth, you would be awesome at it! Plus, think how many sessions of conference you could listen to . . . :) I just remember your birthday celebration run and you listening to conference the whole time! . . . on second thought, I'm afraid you'd be translated so maybe stick to the marathon - we need you here on earth!!! :)

Hope you have a great week, and I'm excited to see you at Painters! It was 58 degrees here today, so beautiful, I took my kids to the park and we were in long sleeves, no jacket. It was a spring-teaser, , , even thought there's still plenty of winter wonder!!!

From AmberG on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 23:43:56 from 209.33.225.111

Oh, , (as if I didn't leave a long enough message . . ) I am still trying to get into Ogden - I got in last year thanks to Zions Bank so I'm hoping for the same kind of luck this year! :)

From Bec on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 00:08:50 from 76.23.55.210

Really good speed Smooth.

From Andy on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 00:29:53 from 198.60.114.178

Great tempo Smooth! I always feel good after those.

From auntieem on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 13:06:02 from 24.17.177.218

Tempo runs are so energizing! Nice work this morning. Pretty cool that you had a faster mile still in you for CD.

From JulieC on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 13:36:23 from 70.58.99.27

Smooth, was this out in the red zone? Great work out. Lately all my joints are hurting from my lower back to my legs, causing sciatica and ripping apart feelings in my hips--- old worn out shoes or curved up ends of an indoor track? blah, I think I will try to run outdoors again despite the red. No time today to buy new shoes either. Do you take any joint supplements? Sorry I totally switched subjects VP.

From RAD on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 14:46:19 from 67.172.229.125

Nice work Smooth!! Your paces are GREAT for a tempo, I'm sure you don't feel like you're getting faster, but you'd have to be! Wish I could join you all in the fun of Painters!

From Teena Marie on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 15:31:20 from 174.52.45.85

YaHoo Baby!!!!! :) :) :)

Check out those splits!!! And to think you were worried!!!!

Love you so much!!!! Can't wait to hang out next weekend!!! :)

From Smooth on Tue, Jan 12, 2010 at 17:55:52 from 174.23.217.47

Amber ~ HI there cutie! I so envy your beautiful weather there especially time spent in the park with your little boys!

Bec, Vinh, Auntieem ~ If I had a choice between tempo run or speed intervals, I'd choose tempo. It's my favorite workout.

Julie ~ Nope! I saw your AQI alert on your blog and decided that my lungs would not be able to take it.

Sorry to hear about your joints acting up. You do reverse directions on the track every so many laps, right? Get new shoes if yours are over 400 miles. Jan is perfect time for clearance of 2009 models. I bought 3 pairs. And YES, I take EmergenC Joint Health. That's what I drink every morning. I have minor osteoarthritis in the small joints. I'm trying to keep it from getting to the bigger joints (knees and hips).

Rachel ~ We will miss you at Painter's.

SSF!!! ~ I am sure it was the fun we had on our 18 miler that made it a speedy recovery! :) I can't wait for next weekend! Hope school and work is going well for you! I LOVE YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!
