Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

AM:  Spent the morning doing laundry so Steven will have freshly laundered or new clothes in his suitcase while he wrote a letter to the graduating seniors for the Seminary Graduation that his dad will be speaking at.

All week long he kept asking: "Are you sure you don't want me to take the bus to the MTC?"  "You sure you don't want me to take the bus?"  "I can ride the bus."  "Nope, you would need a companion to ride the bus; so we might as well take you!" :)

Went down to grandma's to have a nice hello-n-goodbye lunch.  Sarah and baby Charlotte, Seidi, Danny, baby Charlie and baby Mina (3 days old) also came.  Emi had so much fun playing with baby Charlie (they're the same age).  Stopped by Bryan's condo to look for the camera cord (no luck) and say goodbye to Ben.

The SHORTEST, QUICKEST drive EVER to the MTC to drop off my baby (err Elder Lew) at curbside!!!  I held up ok...no tears until his back was turned as two elders whisked him & his suitcases away!!!  Then the tears flooded uncontrollably!!!  I won't see him for TWO years!!!!  He was so happy and ready to go!  I cried like a baby all the way home feeling happy and sad at the same time!!!

PM:  I needed a quick run to *let-go*!!!  It was very windy!!!  Running on Bull River was horrible, gusty dusty dirt-filled air, from the construction to build up the road and cover the canal.  Got a major headache!!!

What an amazing experience. I can't even imagine! I'm glad you were able to get a run in to let go. Sorry the weather didn't cooperate. Maybe the headache is from the tears and not the dust? I always get a headache after I cry. Reminds me of Marjorie Pay Hinckley: "The only way to get through life is to laugh your way through it. You either have to laugh or cry. I prefer to laugh. Crying gives me a headache."

Your life is at such an amazing point right now; like a rushing river going over the falls....all of your life's work leading up to these past few months. I wish your son all the best as he prepares himself for his mission at the MTC. I would have cried uncontrollably too. How can you not? I love you sweet lady, I know how good you are. Your son is now a man, off to do his good in the world. Sending my love and support to you Smooth...Time to get out the hymns and humming.

Rachel & Luz ~ THANK YOU SO MUCH for your kind words! Yep, yesterday was a life time in the making. I have raised one wonderful daughter who is now a terrific mother and FIVE sons. Steven is the last to go on his mission. It was a joyful day; but oh so hard to let go. I absolutely hate goodbyes! Why does it hurt so much!!!

Rachel, you are right, the headache was brewing all week and became full-blown after the dusty run!

OK, time to take a deep breath and feel your love and support...humming my favorite hymns! :) THANKS! I needed that! :)

I started crying just reading your post!! What an amazing experience to send your worthy and excited young man out to serve the Lord. What a mature and wise man he will come back. All that doesn't make it any easier for the mom...I have three sons to send and I am sure I should stock up on Kleenex stock now.

So glad you were able to spend as much time as possible with him before he left. You and Larry are such great parents. I look to you two as examples for Rhett and I all the time.

Love you sweet missionary mom!!

Oh Smoothie, I can't even imagine not seeing my kids for two years. You are so strong. You painted a good picture with your words and I could see it like I was there.

That new goodbye method seems like it's probably easier on the missionaries and harder on the parents. Keep your chin up. (I guess you always do.)
