Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

6.6 recovery in 66:00, weird!  What happened to my sunshine and blue sky?  The soft snow turned into rain drops that seemed to drench my whole being this morning.

I missed my children, my "life before running friends" sooo terribly.  I felt that sometimes running has taken over my life.

After the run, I went back to the scriptures still sitting at the breakfast table, like an old friend, waiting to talk to me.   These scripture passages opened up to me as if dews from heaven:

Alma 5: 14, 15, 16, 19, 26, 27

I noticed so many action words:  look, hear, feel, walk, exercise faith, come, change....I know what I need to seek... that companionship which is constant, kind, and full of love and peace.

***A note about last night:  Dinner at TGIFriday.  Had honey glazed pecan grilled salmon on coconut rice pilaf, salsa and broccoli, 2 tall glasses of water.  Passed up brownie alamode, vanilla bean cheesecake and peanut butter pie which hubby put in a take-home box and still sitting in the fridge.  I made it for day 2! Yes!

The Peking Acrobats were fabulous.  These artistic athletes have incredible core strength, balance, agility, flexibility and grace.  How in the world does that girl rode a uni-cycle on top of a spinning umbrella held by the feet of another acrobat who was in a pretzel position?

The nail-biting moment came when the guy balanced his entire body at horizontal/plank/upside down positions with one arm/hand holding a sideway propped up chair which was on top of 6-8 other chairs with the bottom chair's legs on top of wine bottles.  We sat on the first row in the balcony and he was at eye level to us.  The audience sitting down below must be fearful of him crashing down on them.  Amazing strength, control and balance.  Mass transit meant the entire acrobatic company (must be over 20 people) riding on ONE bicycle!

Tonight is another opportunity to test my will power at the Ogden Chamber of Business Gala to honor hubby's colleague.   Please let there be NO chocolate dessert, please, oh please!

Way to stay strong Smooth, you have been faced with so much mist of darkness i.e. temptations already!!!! Those desserts sound wonderful, , , and good luck at your gala dinner tonight!

The acrobat show sounds incredible and stunning!!!! Wowsers!

Oh thanks for those scripture verses, I read them and they brightened my day. You are always so balanced and leveled, always turning to the scriptures! You also made me realize this time with my kids is going by sooooo fast! Have a GREAT weekend!

Way to resist Smooth! You are being assaulted by sugar temptation everywhere and are doing great!

Nice work this morning!! You are SO amazing...with that stuff sitting in my fridge I probably couldn't resist temptation!

Acrobats sound amazing! I'll have to pay attention to next time they come to town and try to get tickets - I LOVE it!

I just returned from my father-in-law's retirement party. They had Hell Dollies!!!! I love those things. So, I had one, then took my kids out to the car and sat and waited for my husband for 45 minutes. I knew I would eat more if I stayed in there, so I used my kids as an excuse to get out. They were so good in the car (colored, 2 fell asleep), so it was worth it!

I think it is okay to have a treat every day---as long as it is only one. I make sure I get something nummy every night, otherwise it is just not worth it.

Now, I have to tell you that when i hit mileage like yours, I felt the same way. I felt like my entire life was being dominated by fitting a run in, eating right for the run, planning the run, and so on. I hated it and I hated running. So, I do not do it!!! At the beginning of each month at my kids school I teach a lesson in each of their classes (the trait/topic is chosen for me). This month was on being well-balanced. I taught that lesson on Monday, Wednesday, and today. So, being well-balanced is something that is on my mind this week. I think as long as you have that, than no matter how much you run, all is well! And I truly believe that you are one of the most well balanced people I know! You fit it all in, and still have time for fun!!!

Love ya, have fun tomorrow!

I agree with Kelli on the treats. That dinner sounds really good. last time I ate at TGIF's I was surprised how good the steak was. It was the 12 ounce New York and it was wonderful... but I digress. :) Good luck with the will power and nice miles this week.

All this food talk is killing me!!!! Smooth, good luck, only 28 days to go, you can do it!

I am going to bed hungry for the 2nd night in a row and have been eating super clean. I feel like I deserve an award it has been so hard.

I can't relate to the dedication on the running, I am in another league for sure. You guys are my idols!

Amber ~ Thanks! To be honest, I'm so grateful for your invite to the No Sugar Challenge. It is exactly what I need right now!

Yes, please treasure the time you have with your cute little boys and future babies. It is the best time and goes by SO FAST!

Kelli ~ What are Hell Dollies? Sound sinfully deleesh! I agree with treats. I just want to take this challenge for this month (really only 3 weeks) to see if it makes a difference in how I feel and if I could finally get rid of those last stubborn 5 lbs.

THANK YOU for your encouraging words. This high mileage training cycle is affecting me the way you describe. I guess I just didn't see it coming. I will try to find balance. Just 10 more weeks, really 8 more if we count the tapering for me to be on this plan. Then after Boston, I will just maintain marathon shape and have fun the rest of the summer.

I just love you and wish we lived closer! I hope you get over this cold real quick so you can be back to your normal healthy self again!

Scott ~ My hubby had the steak, I had a little piece of it. Yes it was very tender and delicious.

Leslie ~ I am impressed with your clean eating. How do you like your cook book? You go to bed hungry? Really? I could never do that. I used to go to bed hungry when I was a child (we were very very poor and most of the time badly neglected). It was a sad and miserable time. I never want to have that again. May be that's part of my problem, I have to eat every morsel on my plate and to get my money's worth! Haha!

From Kelli on Mon, Feb 08, 2010 at 13:55:48 from 71.219.89.82

OOPS, typo for me!!! HELLO DOLLIES.

They have a graham cracker crust and are made with coconut and nuts and chocolate and all sorts of sugar and bad stuff. they are delicious!

You can do it, 3 weeks is not too bad. I can not go 3 days without sugar and treats, but i have zero will power!!!
